Money does not fall out of the sky, we must work hard to pay for our daughter's education. Nothing comes for free in life!!!! When we were young our parents also could not afford for us to go to university so we had to go and work.

It is time for the Universities and our authorities to stand up against a few who is misusing their rights to demonstate.I have seen no peaceful demonstration and yet nothing is done by our missing or as usual absent leaders

#337: NMMU Alumnus - Re: Safety of Staff & Students

NMMU Management should have taken measures to stop the group of radicals that are causing a  disruption in classes and normal operations. Whether that be police intervention or private security (that, granted, would be a hefty addition to the budget). By closing the university they fail to honor the right to education of the vast majority of the students. Shutting down the universities because of a financially unfeasible 'right' for free tertiary education is absurd. The university cannot afford making education free. Protests should rather continue at government offices and not the university. They are barking up the wrong tree.

Edit: Grammar.

Why did you sign this petition? I worked at and with the founders of this university and they did not make sacrifices for thuggery, etc.!

It affects the whole country's economy .I do however feel the government should be taking steps to make it safe.

I feel it is unfair that the protesting students are not allowing those not protesting to enter campuses and the fact that they are destroying the universities will mean that the future students they are so called fighting for free education will not even have a place to study as it will all be destroyed. Also the fact that a worker was killed in the Wits protests is shocking...will they be held up for murder. So they can protest, destroy and murder and then get free education. Think they needed to learn more in their junior education years as their minds are not working logically as students should at a Tertiary level.

Not everybody has to study. IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD IT, YOU CANNOT BUY IT.!!!! 1983, when I studied, it was a choice and my parents had to sacrifice much, for me to attend PE Technikon. If all fees were not fully paid in the beginning of 2 quarter, you were not allowed in res or to attend lectures. When I completed my studies, I saw a payslip of my father. I asked him if he got paid weekly. TO MY EMOTIONAL DISBELIEF, THAT WAS HIS MONTHLY INCOME. nothing in life comes for fee!!!!!!!

I don't believe in the behavior of a minority of students behaving like thugs and preventing the majority of students from being able to attend University and completing their courses, which they have paid for. It us a disgrace. They are also causing a lot of damage and they are not going to pay for it. The Leaders of the University should have nipped it in the bud right at the beginning and told them if they dont want to learn to leave and let the others who do get on with it it. They could have sat down with those who have problems and sorted it out differently. It is so sad that 2016 will be a waste of an academic year for so many people.

A more drastic action should be taken against these unlawful students. The university is bending down to the unlawful students and totally forgetting about the students who have paid their fees in full in order to receive an education. Lock up the unlawful idiots.

I have a son who is a second year IT Softwear Development student. I pay fees and accommodation therefore he deserves the right to be able to study and write tests and exams timeously and not be disrupted by a select group.

I feel it is so unfair towards the students who worked so hard trough the year and therefore not be able to write exams. Students which have to graduate in April. I was working at NMU for 28 years for the last 12 years as Manager -Exams. I never thought that I will see this happening.
