Save the 29 trees lining Ladies Mile Highway, Queenstown, NZ

trees take a generation to grow, but five minutes to cut down. Powwer lines can be moved or buried, but trees can not. the trees were planted priotr to the power lines being installed. they should have been located elsewhere. We have had a similar problem with power lines on our property.

Queenstown and surrounding area is naturally extremely beautiful.
It is one of the most beautiful places I have visited and holds a very special place in my heart. These trees are a land mark at the entrance to Queenstown and should remain.

I drive that piece of road every day to and from work and I love the hedgerows and trees that border the road, it is part of what makes this area special.

Whilst I'm not a huge fan of trees that block the sun, these trees serve a purpose of sorts.. they set the scene as you arrive into the greater Queenstown area.. before it's ruined by the industrial/5 Mile zone. Perhaps a transplant could be tabled.. save them and beautify an already exsisting eyesore.

Because the proposal to cut the trres down is a disgraceful act of vandalism. The Queenstown District depends for its tourist appeal on aesthetic aspects as much as anything else, and trees like these, a beautiful avenue of seasonal charms help ofset the crass commercialism which is annihilating so much of that natural capital.

Overhead wires are seriously ugly so could they not be put underground just there where the ground is flat and the distance not far.? We are not millionaires and managed to have ours put up our driveway underground.The trees are such fine specimens and the entrance to Queenstown is pretty bad a bit further along the road.

Because removing the trees is wrong and insufferably arrogant and is being mooted simply to free the power company from the slight effort of finding a better alternative than removing the trees.

I pass these trees every day twice at least and would hate to see them removed - particularyl for this reason. As rate payers in the district, perhaps we choose instead to remove the unsightly power lines and place them underground...

There are alternatives to cutting down beautiful mature trees. The shifting of the wires would be much more appropriate.

Only a fool would contemplate destroying these fullgrown avenue of chestnuts at the entrance to queenstown.They should move the powerpoles.Sometimes accountants cant see the wood from the trees

There needs to be more creative thought to retaining the beauty of the area whilst building infrastructure. These trees should be there for our future generations to enjoy too.

I love trees and also trees that provide food and they provide a beautiful start to Lady's Mile. I believe they should be retained as a memorial to the foresight of Bill Walker. In the age of climate change every tree retained helps.

The trees should remain.They make a very special and spectacular entrance into town.If the council can pay for the parks to be removed in front of Fergburger and also contribute to the upgrade/outside area of this property for the benefit of? then surely they can find some money to contribute(with other effected/interested parties) to put the power lines underground.

Because the road looks beautiful with those trees there. They are not causing a nuisance to power lines or to the road! Leave our environment alone and let's keep it looking natural, inviting and stunning! I hope whoever is trying to remove the trees doesn't rely on oxygen or ever stand in the shade of a tree!

 I agree!  The council have clearly got too many projects on the go at once so they should leave this issue alone and leave the trees ... more energy needed to sort out the roading!

Queenstown is an area of great natural beauty which should be preserved and enhanced . Cutting down those trees is short sighted .

Those trees are going to take way too long to replace and I agree, it's part of the welcome to Frankton and the crazy madness of Queenstown.
As a regular visits to the area I really enjoy the trees.
Surely there must be a better option?

QLDC need to suck it up and stop allowing the destruction of the gateway to Queenstown - before we know it they'll have allowed for even more Five Mile type developments to scar what was a gorgeous unspoilt journey into Queenstown! $20,000 p/a (as per QLDC & Delta) could be split 50/50? I'd much rather my rates go to maintaining these trees than to a conference centre in town!

Queenstown is one of our most popular tourist attractions. Tourists love the area for it's natural beauty... ask any of them if they would rather look at power lines or beautiful mature trees lining the main entrance road into town!

QLDC blindsided by a seemingly innocuous event because citizens do care and are concerned that the direction this town is headed is not to their liking.. The trees are a touch point!
