I attended the school in 5th and 6th grades back in the early 90's before moving to the current Middle School. I would like to investigate saving it and it's historical/architectural relevance.

I attended school in Lancaster from preschool through high school graduation(2006). I attended basketball practice in the old gym while in school and played in basketball league after graduating. My younger sister attended Maple St. Daycare in the building. I believe this historic old building still has a lot to offer the community if properly utilized. Childcare, Housing, Business, Youth Center/Recreation, Administration, Fitness and Healthcare services all come to mind. Working in construction, just a few years ago I was part of a leadership team that remodeled an aging school in Sun Prairie into separate entities including a Health Clinic, Professional Learning Center, and an Academy. It would be a shame to see this building come down when it still has so much to offer.

I believe this building could serve the city of Lancaster and the surrounding areas. This has been a part of the community for a very long time and should continue to be. I attended the Lancaster school system for my entire education. I had activities and classes in that building, I volunteered with the occupational therapy that was there when I was in college. My parents both attended school there, there are many great memories for all the community in this building that should be preserved.

Too much of our history is lost when old buildings are carelessly destroyed.

Preserving this historic school and repurposing it to serve community functions and local small businesses would provide a unique asset in the life of the Lancaster and greater Grant County communities.

I graduated from this high school in 1959 and I have great memories of going to school there. I have no ties to the new high school.

I attended school in Lancaster from 1959 to 1971 when I graduated. I attended Jr. High in this building and would like to see it re-purposed rather than torn down.

I grew up in Lancaster and went to middle school in this building. It should be a historical site and NOT torn down. All the money spent on the library... yet you can't save this building. It's a shame.

I am signing this because it is a beautiful building that has so much history. I remember the beautiful wood and stone (marble?). I went to the school during my Jr. High School days, 1977-1979, and my father, aunts and uncles went to school there as well.

I grew up in Lancaster and attended school here. It would be a shame to see this building go. Where I live now, has turned the previous elementary school into a community center where dance classes, exercise classes, art classes and pickle ball are held. It also houses what is called “Blessings” where people donate clothes and furnishings for those in need.

I attended Jr. High School in this building. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to destroy it. It’s part of everyone’s history that attended the school. Wonderful memories live on, & are revisited every time someone returns home, & drives around town remembering all the wonderful times from their childhood. There are a lot of changes, but this building should be recognized as a large part of Lancaster’s history, and everything possible should be done to ensure it will continue to stand.

I attended this school in the early 90s for 5th and 6th grade before moving to the current middle school. The city of Lancaster should use building for community needs, possibly for apartments.

Lancaster has had a big problem with tearing down memorable buildings like the hotel, pink pony, the old, jail, bakery, etc.

I know it’s gonna take money, but it would thing that it’d be a great for housing. Could also do Consignment out of the gymnasium.

Both of my parents and myself attended this school. It is a beautiful building on the inside especially and is an important part of Lancaster's history. I believe it is worth saving as an investment in the future of the people of Lancaster and the surrounding areas.

I went to junior high school in this building. Both my parents went there in high school. Lancaster has lost a lot of historic buildings. It is time to save one.

Preserving the architectural history of our cities is vital in ensuring that the cultural and artistic significance of our ancestors lives on. Without such architectural works, we simply sever our connection to the past in a way. A connection that allows us to truly progress as a collective society.

Lukas Howard (Madison, 2024-04-14)

The history and importance this building holds for the city of Lancaster is unquantifiable. For nearly 100 years, this beautiful building has stood tall and seen numerous changes to our beautiful rural town. By removing such an important piece of history, the city would not only be erasing 100 years of Lancaster's educational history, but also memories for countless natives living in Lancaster, and around the world. Most residents of Lancaster have had parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and even great-great grandparents who attended this school. Erasing such an important piece of history in such a small town would not only be irresponsible, but devastating for so many people. Historic buildings such as this need to be protected and preserved at all costs.

My daughter went to preschool here 5 years ago. I get money is always an issue, but I dislike how easy it is for some to just destroy so much history.

I was born and raised on a farm in Lancaster and graduated in 1977. I went to Junior High in this building and my dad graduated from high school in this building back in the 1950's. Our family have a deep connection to this building. I would hate to see another old building that is almost a century old go to waste and being tore down for something more modern. History needs to be preserved as without it there is nothing left to fall back on for the future to see what it used to be like. I loved the balcony around the gym and the top floor was the study hall with the stage which is where my dad graduated from. The wooden floors up there and the seats were all original when I was there in our Junior High years. I still remember where all my classrooms and teachers were. The gym was not only for phy. ed. but also for dances which were very popular back then. I know my memories will always be with me but I would still like to see the building preserved. I would also like to get a tour of the building as well. How would I be able to do that?

Lancaster has a lot of history of Wisconsin
The first governor is buried there.
There were onion plantation's farmers by freed slaves.
Fantastic architecture in the old library
(now gone. ). County court house, old hotel, old jail, the plantation house and workers homes. Many now gone. The stone work and carved wood now gone. Why destroy our past the high school is a prime example or craftsmanship.
Some are to quick to destroy the history of our very special city. The architecture and the architects art should be preserved and honered.
I am sure that many feel the same way, they need to not be afraid to speak up.
Lancaster needs to power up, speak up, and stand proud of the history of Lancaster.
