Our children should not be made sit in a cold classroom for over 5 hours a day.its not fair and it’s not acceptable. Having to sit with coats on all day to keep warm I can imagine is uncomfortable and then going from the warmth to the cold after sitting in a coat all day You’d b prone to catch a dose when u go outside.its just not fair on the children, schools had 6 months to come up with a plan and this is the best they can do.maybe air out the classrooms when teachers first get in, close them before the kids come in then reopen them when they are in yard, alternate when they should b opened rather than leave them open all dayKim Mooney (Dublin, 2020-11-04)

I’m signing this petition because I have actually became sick from the cold in school. I have a small cold right now and this is not okay. It is sick and disgusting that the government put us in a building with 800 people, all open windows and no shut doors, no jackets allowed and still expect us to walk to come in? This is absolutely wrong and vile.Abbie Purcell (Finglas, 2020-11-04)

I’m signing this as I’m currently a 6th year student and as of we’re not under a lot of pressure of trying to do the impossible and catch up on work the teachers say we’ve to do ourself and expect us to do more work and study we now have the problem on it being freezing in classrooms. We’re forced to wear masks but they have to keep the windows open for ventilation it’s a disgrace as it’s getting really cold and having to sit inside all day and teachers saying we can’t wear our jackets while we’ve to sit there freezing wearing o ur masks meant to stop the virusLuke Dunne (Dublin, 2020-11-04)

I have seen a copy of these recommendations for opening up our schools... No where is it mentioned that children are to be made sit in freezing cold conditions!! The recommendation is that children should feel comfortable when attending school however as highlighted this is not the case in many schools. It also does not instruct children to wear multiple layers of clothing to protect themselves from the eliments, this instruction is clearly coming from the school itself and does not comply with the guidelines being communicated to them. Children are actually being instructed to wear an extra 5 layers of clothing under the uniform or a body warmer can be worn as a protective layer!!! Schoil mhuire Blakestown has informed the children they will not be allowed wear their heavier coats whilst in class except for the pupils that are actually sitting directly at or under the wide open window, however the teacher is allowed the use of a heavy coat whilst conducting lessons. Does this shit make sense at all???The recommendation also states that windows do not need to be opened wide or fully to allow ventilation in classrooms! It states that windows should be opened slightly and should be close to a radiator in colder conditions and that this should be done where climate allows. With this said the current temperature and conditions that the children are experiencing in schools is absolutely disgraceful and in no way comfortable no matter what way you look at this!!! It does seem that other schools are taking a more realistic approach in combating the virus whilst still in keeping with the recommendations and where the health of the students is always at the forefront... Why isn't this approach not been implemented in all schools where the health of the children is priority???
