I live in the area and the trees provide not only great joy to local residents and a buffer from the exhaust fumes of the dual carriageway, they also provide a much needed habitat for local wildlife.David Bassett (Dublin, 2020-10-06)

The trees are a feature of the local area, and it would be a shame to see them encroached upon. The alternative proposal seems like a win-win all round! In some respects an improvement.Robert Rusk (Dublin, 2020-10-06)

I’m signing because there is no need to remove these trees. They provide a safety barrier berths houses and road. Many children and adults walk down the old naval toad to access both St Brigids Gaa club and also to walk to the railway stationCaroline Curtis (Castleknock, 2020-10-06)

I believe that we should preserve mature trees as they are havens of wildlifeRay Bassett (Dublin, 2020-10-06)

My family live in an adjacent dwelling and I see first hand how important these trees are; not just to the community but more importantly to the nature and wildlife of the area. I have seen all manor of birds, insects, and squirrels in it. It is not right to remove them, when there is no alternative home for them.More consideration needs to be given to the environmental and social implications that removing the trees and shrubs would have.
Plus it would be many times more dangerous for the kids walking to the gaa club and to the shop. It would put them in needless danger, resulting in more car's on the road leaving the kids around instead of walking- a complete step backwards.
Nothing about removing the trees is positive and it is unnecessary. I fully agree that the existing Old Navan Road should be utilised to provide the proposed enhanced pedestrian path and the proposed cycle lane along with the installation of enhanced sound barrier protection and additional planting. That is a win win for everybody and everything; An enhanced habitat for the wildlife while creating a wonderful place to cycle and walk safety. A win for all..

I wish to maintain the privacy and sound barrier afforded to both myself and my neighbours by this plantation; and also in he interest of the wildlife resident therein!William Brady (Dublin, 2020-10-06)

I live beside the road with the trees, they are safer for our children, they are a noise barrier and somewhat a pollutant barrierCliona Loomes (Dublin, 2020-10-06)

As a long term resident of the local area and an environmentalist, I am opposed to the proposed destruction of the trees on the Old Navan Road. The Castleknock area is an important corridor between wildlife areas in the Phoenix park and the royal canal/tolka river valley. Mature tree verges support wildlife within this corridor. Additionally, the Navan road is already an extremely wide road and the trees create a noise barrier between traffic on the Navan road and residential housing.Jennifer Bassett (Dublin, 2020-10-06)

As part of climate change we need More trees , not less, so please save the trees and help save our local environment and thus affect change in our struggling planet.Judy Murphy (Dublin, 2020-10-06)

It’s a disgrace removing these trees for a cycle lane that will never be usedBee Smyth (Castleknock, 2020-10-06)

As a senior citizen aged 70+, the proposed removal of trees would have a severe adverse impact on my sleep (due to increased noise), health (from higher pollution levels), and overall quality of life / life expectancy.Patrick McCabe (Dublin, 2020-10-06)
#262
I think the removal of these trees would increase noise pollution to adjacent dwellings and have a negative visual impact on the areaKilian Dunbar (Dublin, 2020-10-06)
#273
There is absolutely no advantage to this proposal except inconvenience and incursion for the local residents. The quality of life would be further diminished by the increase in noise and dust pollution.Johnny Mc Govern (Dublin, 2020-10-07)
#275
I’m signing because I will have to look out at traffic instead of trees it this is doneConor Fitzpatrick (Dublin, 2020-10-07)

I am strongly opposed to the removal of the existing tree line on the Old Navan Roadfor tthhe following reasons. No 1
I have enjoyed the visual amenity provided by this beautiful line of greenery which I look out on every day as I sit in my kitchen. I can see the line all the way down to the GAA club
Now
The bud stop was moved up from outside the GAA club a few years ago to tight outside my back entrance . I am delighted to have these trees beside my home as they afford a fair bit of privacy. Because of my location and the way my house is rear facing down the Navan Road I would have an audience all day long from early morning to last bus at night. The tree line obscures that from happening.
Yours sincerely
Brian Keenan-Hall

It would be madness to cut down the beautiful trees along this area. How much more destruction will be allowed to our quality of life ?. We need more trees not less. We are regularly urged to plant more trees not destroy the ones we have. Who thinks us this rubbish and gets paid for doing so.Phyllis Cronin (Castleknock, 2020-10-07)

I live in Woodview Park and absolutely agree with this petition. These trees are vital in our community for all the reasons outlined and I feel strongly about the pollution in this area particularly with the m50 behind and an ever growing dual carriageway. A cycle lane has zero benefit here as the road from the GAA club provides adequate function and safety for cycling. The cycle lane would surely end at the traffic lights and cyclists would presumably turn in anyway. Huge detriment to an area for no benefits in my opinion.Charlotte King (Castleknock, 2020-10-07)

More trees are needed not to cut mature trees downDebby Brereton (Dublin 15, 2020-10-08)

I’m signing because I live in Number 1,Castleknock Manor, the residence which is closest to the proposed tree removal. As a senior citizen, the proposals will have a detrimental effect on my respiratory, cardiac and mental health due to Increased noise and air pollution. As a result my quality of life and life expectancy will both be reduced.

I am a resident in the area and these trees provide a wonderful natural barrier to the noise pollution from the dual carriageway. I have 3 kids who are members of Brigid's GAA and they will be cycling soon to training/matches and from a safety point of view it's imperative this natural barrier/amenity/means of removing CO2from the atmosphere remainBrian Cunningham (Dublin 15, 2020-10-09)

I live adjacent to the proposed route and have significant concerns over the potential impact both aurally and visually that will be caused by the interference with this green amenity barrier.Jarlath Lynn (Dublin, 2020-10-09)

I live on Auburn Green and if these are removed it will cause a lot of extra noise. There are a lot of settled families in Auburn and this noise will cause disruption to their peace and quiet. There is a large volume of traffic that travel on this road daily. With the shrubbery there, it separates the residental area from a very busy motor way.Michelle Hoare (Dublin, 2020-10-09)

I fully support the issues raised in this petition and would ask that the trees and shrubbery along the Old Navan Road be retained amd even enhanced, and the proposed footpath and cycle way be incorporated into the existing Old Navan Road.John Stack (Dublin, 2020-10-10)

I agree fully with the retention of this green sustainable barrier between a national road and family residential area. The option to enhance the old Navan Road to incorporate a bicycle and pedestrian lane separated from the dual carraigway must make more sense from all view points. The construction of the new Edmund Rice school will also benefit from an enchacement of this section of the old Navan road for children on their commute by bike and foot seperated from a national road.

I do not want trees beside my home removed in addition to them being a sound barrier there are fixed and squirrels etc living there. There are alternatives as per detail within petitionSallynne Brady (Dublin, 2020-10-11)

I'm signing because the quality of the lives of the residents of Phoenix, Peck's Lane and Castleknock Manor will be severely affected if this plan goes ahead. We will lose a nature reserve and an essential sound barrier.Therese Schmidt (Phoenix Castleknock, 2020-10-11)

It is ridiculous, there is a three lane dual carriageway, it is the best and widest section of highway coming out all the way from the city. There is a cycle lane the other side of the trees on the old Navan Road, do there are no bikes on the 3 lane carriageway at this point. The mound and trees were planted as a sound barrier for the domestic houses Phoenix Gardens, Phoenix Court & Pecks Lane, when the Blanchardtown by-pass was built. The trees are a beautiful and valuable feature, in what otherwise would be bleak and barren suburbia. It is as if they are trying to "improve" the very best section of highway on the entire busroute from Blanch to town. Why not try to improve the road network at the bottlenecks and narrow sections, and leave the very best section of road alone ???Paddy Cooney (Dublin 15, 2020-10-11)

Should this go ahead I concerned about the increased levels of noise, the visual aspect both of which would greatly impact on the quality of life we have now living close the area of the plantation.Ben Beegan (Castleknock, 2020-10-11)

I'm concerned about loosing valuable trees that create a natural safety barrier & a buffer for the road noise from the N3. Also the loss of the trees will have an impact on the air quality in the area.Marie Beegan (Dublin, 2020-10-11)
#393
Those tress provide a sound barrier to the local residents from the busy motorway. They also protect from the unsightly grey roads that would acost the local residents if those trees weren't there. They have aesthetic, practical and health roles in the area and are invaluable in our community. If you had any idea of the true value they provide you would not even consider cutting them down.David Jones (Dublin, 2020-10-11)
#394
Removing these trees will amplify the traffic noise which is already an offence to the earEvelyn Robinson (Dublin 15, 2020-10-11)

I am signing as 1] no healthy tree should be removed due to adverse effect on climate change and 2] if trees removed there will be increase of noise for residents from Navan Road traffic. This must not be allowed to happen.Anne Valentine (Dublin 15, 2020-10-12)
