Latinan kielen säilyttäminen Jyväskylän yliopistossa

Jyväskylän yliopisto on lakkauttamassa latinan oppiaineen kokonaan. Jos näin todella tapahtuu, katkeaa perinne, jota on vaikea palauttaa enää myöhemmin, ja yliopisto ottaa askeleen pois sivistysyliopiston ihanteesta. Latinan kielestä hyötyvät monet tahot, ja vastaavasti näiden tahojen toiminta vaarantuu jos latina poistuu. Latinan tarvitsijoita löytyy filosofian opiskelijoista historian tutkijoihin ja kuoroista yliopiston viestintään, eikä tarve rajoitu yliopiston sisälle. Latinan asema kulttuurihistoriassamme tekee siitä välttämättömän työkalun maailmamme ymmärtämiseen. Latina ei ole yliopistolle taloudellinen taakka vaan pikemminkin sijoitus, sillä monen alan tutkimuksessa käytetään latinaa.

Toivomme, että Jyväskylän yliopisto tarjoaa jatkossakin mahdollisuuden opiskella latinan kieltä.

Preserving Latin in University of Jyväskylä

University of Jyväskylä is about to abolish the study of Latin completely. If this really happens, a tradition hard to revive will be terminated and university will take a step away from its traditional values. Many actors benefit from Latin, and removing Latin threatens the work of these actors. Users of Latin range from students of philosophy to researchers of history and from choirs to public relations, and the need is not confined to the university. The central position of Latin in our cultural history makes it an indispensable tool in understanding our world. Latin is not an economical burden but an investment to the university, for it is used in many areas of research.

We hope that University of Jyväskylä continue to offer the possibility to study Latin.

Lingua Latina conservanda in Universitate Jyväskylä

Universitas Granivicensis (Universitas urbis Jyväskylä) linguae Latinae studendae finem factura est. Si ita vero fit, traditio difficilis restitutu finitur et universitas cedit a valoribus suis traditis. Multi sunt, qui utilitatem capiant e lingua Latina, et labor eorum impeditur hac lingua removenda. Usores huius linguae inveniuntur inter alios apud studentes philosophiae, investigatores historiae, choros, communicationem publicam atque ultra universitatem. Positio linguae Latinae in historia culturali nostra eam instrumentum necessarium facit in mundo nostro comprehendendo. Lingua latina non onus oeconomicum sed collocatio bona universitati est, quod in tantis areis investigationis usui est.
