The Iona hall is part of bridgemary, I met my husband there 40 years ago, it holds a lot of memories for a lot of people. And for more people to make memories.

The Iona Club has been the social focal point for families for generations. The Catholic Church has shut it down, then tried to justify it. There is no justification.

I have attended a function here, it is a very valuable local social resource run at no cost to the authorities. There is no valid reason to close

why did they not give notice or people the chance to raise the money themselves to get the work done? they have no right to take this club away without notice or the chance for locals to pay for the work to keep it open, they should involve the locals and people who use the facility to have a say in what happens to it ?

We are as miffed about that as you are. A knee jerk decision was made without any dialogue. It really shouldn't have happened this way and The Iona Club were paying tenants with rights.

what is the justification in closing one of the best clubs in the area? As far as I can see there must be a hidden agenda.

The Iona club has been a community hub for decades. I used to go there with my parents when I was a child and in turn took my children there for special events. It is a real shame that this important social space is being ripped from the community, especially in this day and age when less real socialising takes place due to the popularity of the Internet.

I don't see much Christian compassion for the local community in what the very wealthy Catholic Church has done to our wonderful social club. It was a place for the community to meet and socialise many of whom were the elderly. I know we the members and officers have paid for an awful lot of things that should have been paid for by the landlords. Like I say Caring Christian Catholic Church I don't think so shame on you for not being totally up front and honest with us.

I've had some great evening's at the Iona club.
I've met some of the nicest, kindest people there you could wish to meet.

It's a place that clearly means a lot to members of the community, people of ALL ages.
I think it would be extremely sad and unfair to take away something that gives so much pleasure to local people, some who have been going there for many years. I know lot of work and care goes in to making the club the lovely place that it is

It is the only Hall left for functions in the area and is a much needed asset.

Top Draw have been playing the Iona Club since the band first started. We, and our friends and families, have always had an excellent time and been made to feel totally welcome by the lovely folks there. It would be a terrible shame to know we'd played there for the last time and we're more than happy to lend our support
