◦Already in a press release 16.03.1999 the Simon Wiesenthal centre in Jerusalem condemned the march of the legionaries and
stated, ‘although these units were not involved in crimes against humanity, many of their soldiers had previously served in the Latvian security police and had actively participated in the mass murder of civilians, primarily Jews...The stubborn insistence of Latvia’s SS Legion veterans to conduct a public march to glorify their role as combatants on behalf of the Third Reich is a clear indication that many Latvians have still not internalised the lessons of WWII... not one of the numerous Latvian killers who collaborated with the Nazis has been brought to justice since Latvia obtained its independence, far too many Latvians feel free to identify with those who fought alongside the perpetrators of the Holocaust rather than with its victims’.

Thank you to everyone who is voting and considering this issue seriously. Could the personal insults stop and the very serious issues this petition covers be addressed in a diplomatic manner.

This petition is not about crimes other than those committed by Arajs Commandos who then joined the 15 and 19 divisions of the SS and fought with the Germans against the allies in turn allowing concentration camps such as Auschwitz to carry on with their crimes against humanity

Fashism must be stopped

Why do some people in this forum think that one crime cancels out another? As mentioned this petition is about the remembering of innocent people, most of whom were Jews, who were brutally murdered in 1941 by Arajs Commandos who then joined the 15 and 19 divisions of the SS in 1943 and fought with the Germans against the allies. This petition does not concern itself with any crimes people state took place after the mass slaughter of Jews in 1941. Please stop confusing reasons for Latvians fighting Soviets with the mass slughter of Jews by Latvian Arajs. commandos.
