#262015-04-27 03:19I do not think that Saanich should be trying to expand their bureaucracy to micro manage what a property owner does on his own property. |

#282015-04-28 19:49This Bylaw shows how the staff have taken control of the entire municipal system not only in Saanich but almost all of Vancouver Island. Planners have isolated the elected officals and staff are creating bylaws and offical community plans that they think are good for everyone but tend to handcuff not only the council but anyone who is planning any improvements. Protection of the sensitive ecological systems has always been the mandate of respectable land owners and developers. Rather than creating road blocks at every step why not work with the land owners and developers to achieve something that respects the natural environment and pride in the community. The economic damage that the current trend for bylaw development is taking will been realized in a few years and the Planners will say "Oh What Has Happened? We Thought We Were Doing The Right Thing". Then they will balme the council for passing the bylaws in the first place. Don't even get me going of the excessive slaries and benifits the municipal employees enjoy.

#292015-04-29 00:43Almost 100% of our property (4.75 acres) is encompassed by the EDPA as well a ESA. We back onto about 200 acres of Bear Hill Park. I seems by including us in the EDPA, we are becoming an extension of the park. We operate a small scale nursery. BC Assessment require at least 50% of our property to be in production. |

#302015-04-29 16:50Because I'm appalled at the staff who did this and Saanich council for not making sure that this proposed change bylaw notice not being sent to all Saanich residents and hold meetings for discussion on this matter. |

#322015-05-03 16:19I believe as a property owner that this municipality is trampling thru the environment before completing a precise study on what is actually required to preserve our landscapes and property rights!! |

#342015-05-04 19:49Limiting the rights of property owners will devalue our properties in Saanich and impact community growth. As much as I respect and value the environment, this is taking it a bit far. In the constitution, we have the rights to property and this feels like an infringement on our rights. |

#352015-05-04 19:56One of the reasons I bought property in the Saanich area is to be able to develop the land over time and potentially produce food for my family. I feel this bylaw violates my freedom. I do not want bureaucrats telling me how to live my life. I am personally responsible to care for the environment of the land that I own, I do not need someone else to dictate to me how to care. If I wanted that I would live in a condo. |

#362015-05-06 00:48Saanich Council should have never had the authority to pass such a bylaw without serious consultation with Tax payers and other parties that would have provided invaluable information. Setting lands aside with no intent to maintain (such as some of the existing parks) generates eyesores, fire hazards and a breeding ground for the already existing invasive species to flourish. In general people who own properties in Saanich respect the environment and manage quite nicely without this overbearing bylaw. Identifying properties that meet the definition of "sensitive" should be saved, paid for and managed for future use by the community as a whole for all to enjoy. |

#372015-05-22 17:41Concern that revisions to this by-law are needed and that there needs to be more consultation with residents of Saanich. |

#38 Compensation - should be2015-05-23 14:19Was it Susan Brice who put in the DECLARATION OF THE RIGHT TO A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT that states to “Ensure equitable distribution of environmental benefits and burdens within the municipality.” The burdens are significant if more than half of your property is in the EDPA or put into a Covenant, so shouldn't there be financial compensation for those of us impacted and have had our land devalued? |

#402015-06-01 23:57The restriction are way too severe, I own this property and have been a good environmental steward of Colquitz River for 44 years. Saanich has a trail within a few meters of the river on the opposite bank and they have a sewer line within 10 meters on my side and want me to ask them to do almost anything for 30 meters. This bylaw needs to be reworked with consultation and common sense! |

#412015-06-10 02:29Lower land value, more difficult to sell your property, restrictive use of property, a bylaw forced on land owners, hardship for some owners, added cost to land owners when making land improvements, more future restrictions, and this bylaw will cost all Saanich tax payers as this adds another layer of administration that will only grow in time. |

#422015-06-16 01:36I am one of the homeowners whose property is affected. I'm being told what to do with my property. Do I now live in a dictatorship? Appears to be that way! |

#432015-06-22 15:09We are property owners in Saanich. The property has been owned by the family for fifty- five years. The EDPA restricts our ability to subdivide one legal lot off. In the last twenty years two large oaks have blown down. We had found grubs in the root systems that hollowed out the root systems. The present health of our remaining oaks are showing signs and symptoms of poor health. The oak trees have been stressed by green worms. We have noticed the first set of leaves almost completely disappear. Each year for the past few years new leaves do grow back. Branches of the oaks are dying. We think a tree biologist could assess the health of our oak trees. In so doing the tree biologist may determine if current measures at oak protection by the EDPA are too little too late? |

#442015-07-29 18:04i think this bylaw smackes of george orwells 1984. Too much control in the hands of a few. Little or no thought as to how this impacts on property owns and THEIR rights enjoyment and a modicum of control over property they bought and paid for and pay taxes on. Tail wagging the dog. |

#452015-08-23 22:31I have been finacially harmed in a material way by these regulations that were snuck past the taxpayers of this municpality. My property has been expropriated and I have had no compensation. I have had a "rock" on my property declared to be coastal bluff therefore extending EDPA zone an additional 10m beyond the 15m zone from the foreshore. In another dealing with the EDPA I have had land extorted from me in the middle of my property in order to do a "deal" be able to replace a formal english garden with a driveway to get to my house. I have had to plant $15,000 of native plants ripping out existing non-native garden as a part of this "deal". The icing on the cake is a survey that I need to fill out and return to the very department that enforces these rules. Kinda like Kim Jong-un of north Korea sending me a survey asking me how I feel about his rule. If one speaks their mind how would you be punished when trying to get a development permit? Enough is enough! People have been financially harmed. Most taxpayers aren't even aware of what has happened. Its time we change that. Thank you to all who are leading the charge. |

#472015-10-26 22:21Saanich staff continues to proceed with many activities (including implementation of EDPA) with impunity. They need to start being accountable, fair and provide an appeals process. |

#48 Saanich EDPA Petition2015-10-28 23:15I have nothing on my property requiring protection, we are adjacent to Mystic Pond which is quickly disappearing due to silt collection from Mystic Vale but there is nothing we can do about that. I can't think of any good reason to include our property in this plan. does Oak Bay and Victoria have the same bylaw? It doesn't make sense to do thsi in isolation of the rest of the region. |

#492015-10-29 00:23saanich fails to respect rights of ratepayers, ignores expert advice of arborists, arrogantly issues decrees with disregard for common sense and effect on property values |

#502015-10-29 07:09We have had several bad experiences with Saanich with regards to diseased protected Arbutus trees in our back yard. Saanich was very difficult and smug in dealing with these trees. It was clear to myself and my neighbour the very poor condition and dangerous conditions this tree presented to my home and my neighbours home. Saanich forced us to hire an independent arborist to asses the tree (almost $400 out of pocket) then submit the findings to them, at which point Saanich would make the final decision. Well, Saanich refused to allow us to remove that one tree and during the next heavy wind storm that tree was blown down on to my neighbours fence and deck. Thank god it didn't kill anyone. I called Saanich the next day and told them I was going to start removing the tree and the mess. I was told that I could not touch the tree until an assessor came out to view the site. I took a lot of pictures of the fallen tree and the damage it made. Sure as shit, a Saanich person was out the next day to view and document the damage. I showed him picture after picture and by the 4th photo, he couldn't seem to get of my property fast enough !!!! Totally unrealistic bunch of robots........ |
