Wageningen For Equality and Peace in Palestine
We note that:
- The Israeli military operation in Gaza, following the Hamas attack on October 7, has already cost the lives of more than 32,000 civilians, the majority of whom are children; the number of parentless children is approaching 20,000.
- Goods from aid organizations are only slowly allowed into Israel at the border between Israel and Gaza, causing famine in Gaza.
- Starving and killing innocent civilians is a war crime. These actions by Israel have now taken the form of genocide against the Palestinian population.
- In addition, the Dutch government continues to look for ways to supply parts for F-35 fighter planes to Israel despite a court ban. She does this, despite officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warning of "serious violations" of humanitarian law of war. Oxfam Novib, PAX and The Rights Forum have demanded in a lawsuit that deliveries be stopped.
Wageningen is the City of Liberation and that title justifies that it stands up for equal rights for all population groups in every country, including Palestine and Israel.
We ask the municipal council of Wageningen, City of Liberation, to send a clear signal to the Dutch government to commit itself to a sustainable and peaceful solution to the decades-long Israel-Palestine conflict, with equal rights for all population groups and mutual release of all hostages and political prisoners.
We request the mayor, as chairman of the municipal council, to bring this petition to the attention of Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs and the representatives in the Senate and House of Representatives. And to present this petition to the media for notification.
