Stop UTC Bird Window Strikes

Birds are hitting campus’ windows, dying or sustaining injury, by the hundreds. The problem stems from birds’ inability to perceive glass, mixed with a campus full of glass, and in the process of making more glass, with the stadium renovations. To fix the problem, bird friendly decals or materials- ie. patterned decals, one-way decals- must be added to the exterior of existing problem windows, such as Holt Hall, the UC, and the library; and bird friendly design must be used for ongoing and future campus construction.

We who sign this petition support collaboration between concerned faculty and students, and campus facilities, who are in charge of campus windows, in order to implement the above solutions. Collaboration as I define it, generally follows this route: faculty and staff propose solutions on existing and to-exist buildings. Facilities review and critique said proposals, until one is agreed upon which pleases both parties. Next, faculty and staff propose methods for implementing those solutions, such as plans for fund sourcing and contracting, followed by the review and critique, like last time, of those propositions, until one is agreed on.
