I think everyone works to much and it's not necessary. Too commercial.

(Tralee, 2017-01-17)

I had to work retail for years and when I had small children Christmas ment workin long hours and a load of abuse from tired stressed shoppers. Two days together isnt much to ask for and people only have a finite amount of money to spend anyway .

(Ratoath, 2017-01-17)

I agree totally with this proposal. Greed ruined this country a few years ago in the boom time and people have learned nothing from it because it's happening again. I know it won't fix it but it may be a first step.

(Limerick, 2017-01-17)

#56

I work in retail and after a hectic run up to Christmas we deserve a break to spend time with family and friends

(Kilkenny, 2017-01-17)

#67

There is no need for shops to open Stephen's Day. It's much more important for retail staff to spend Christmas with their families or whatever they want to do. Let them me off like most other people.

(Dublin, 2017-01-17)

#69

both my daughters had to return to work on st. stephens day and it ruined family time at christmas

I'm signing because I've worked in retail for the last 17yrs,we only close 1 day a year that Christmas Day, St Stephens day is ment to be spent with your family and friends. we work hard, long hrs and put up with a lot of unhappy people but also some great one that we look forwards to seeing every week. We go threw the good times, hard times and even losses with customers..should we not be allowed to have just one day that we get to enjoy our family time and our Christmas with out the fact that we know have to leave the next morning for work just because a lot of you think your going to get something cheaper then normal well if you are what is another day to wait going to matter..i am asking for just that one extra day that I can spend with my family and enjoy it like everyone else does that not much to ask for really just one day..,

(Waterford, 2017-01-18)

(dublin, 2017-02-20)

#112

Stephen's day should be a family day. Retail workers put in very long hours dealing with some not so pleasant people all through December. The least they deserve is two days off at Christmas.

(Dublin, 2017-02-21)

Sales assistants need a Christmas too
