Nicotine is addictive and smokers should not be forced to quit cold Turkey due to the high levels of physical and mental stress that causes weakening the immune system and making them more easy to become infected with the viruss

Leslie Johns (Durban, 2020-04-10)

#1610

Because I don't understand the point of banning cigarettes from being sold.

Claudene Stanley (Johannesburg, 2020-04-10)

Luané Dewet (Delmas, 2020-04-10)

Tokkie Towsen (Mokopane, 2020-04-10)

#1627

Nancy du Toit (Germiston, 2020-04-10)

#1630

Yolanda Du Plessis (Shelly Beach, 2020-04-10)

#1651

Cigarettes has nothing to do with lockdown, it is a oetsonal choice and niwhere in the world had it been banned!

Harriet Scheepers (Bloemfontein, 2020-04-10)

#1656

My friends all smoke and need to buy. Not everyone had the opportunity or money 25 March to purchase before the lockdown

Ilse Thomas (Midrand, 2020-04-10)

#1658

The banning if cigarettes is an idiotic move as stopping cold turkey for a lot of people will push them over the edge. Already child abuse has risen and violence in general is escalating. Also people in rehab need something when they are coming off whatever it is they were on. Cigarettes keep most people same. Lift the ban so people can still feel they have something.

Patricia El Ouardi (Cape Town, 2020-04-10)

#1660

I am a smoker and I think this ban is unfair

Elmarie Bester (Pretoria, 2020-04-10)

#1661

it is not helping the moral of the people.going into effected areas to buy cigarettes,

schalk geel (bloemfontein, 2020-04-10)

#1662

I think it’s unreasonable to force people to quit under these circumstances. Also not enough warning was given. Most importantly lower income people arent able to buy for weeks/month ahead.

Karen Mc Kerr (Port Elizabeth, 2020-04-10)

#1663

I'm signing because I've had stage 4 cancer and when I stopped smoking the shock to my body was enormous and my heart went into SVT several times, I don't want to die!!!!

Madalise Myburgh (LANGEBAAN, 2020-04-10)

#1681

You have enough problems dealing with lockdown and losing billions in revenue. People still smoke, but China is making the profit from these illegal cigarette sales

Anneliese Niemandt (knysna, 2020-04-10)

#1683

See no reason for this banning what has it got to do with corona?

Liza Vd Merwe (Capetown, 2020-04-10)

#1693

Maggie Becker (Pretoria, 2020-04-10)

#1706

I am a smoker and the facts is,
This will cause us as smokers to not have to look for it on the black market currently
It is our stress relief
will stop crime where people get to the point of they will rob a shop just for cigarettes
Family violance as a person that has withdrawal symptoms gets violant
Govermant losing alot on taxes

Tinus Pretorius (Mossel-bay, 2020-04-10)

#1710

I fear the black market trade which will increase crime as they will be robbing to make money and supply the need. When this crisis is over have a government campaign to stop with support suggestions

Nula Gallagher (Knysna, 2020-04-10)

#1711

I am not doing anyone any harm

Fiona Jones (Benoni, 2020-04-10)

Stress Relief

Juan Rautenbach (Tzaneen, 2020-04-10)

#1717

Its to cope with the stress, its essential. Home based violence will sky rocket when withdrawls set in and you are locked down at home.

Yolandi Visagie (Pretoria, 2020-04-10)

#1723

I am a smoker and require cigarettes in such a stressful time. We were not told to prepare for 5 weeks of lockdown, thus I only bought supplies for 3 weeks.

Liezel Groenewald (Middelburg, 2020-04-10)

#1726

#1738

Shari Kriel (Kempton, 2020-04-10)

#1742

I am 61 and reasonably healthy. Iknow that if I stop cold turkey my health will suffer.

Marieta Ristow (Dalview, Brakpan, 2020-04-10)

#1743

I think the people who smoke suffer really badly. If you smoke a long time and you have to stop smoke on the spot it will leed to heart attacks and more. You need to scale down before you can stop

Tina Grobler (Thabazimbi Limpopo, 2020-04-10)

#1744

Because im a smoker and need my cigarettes

Jean Bekker (Orkney, 2020-04-10)

#1745

I live and work in a resort that is in lockdown we cannot move around at all we are completely isolated and we support the lockdown the only thing we ask when we but essential items that we are allowed to buy cigarettes it will stop illegal trade of cigarettes and support our own economy

Francesca Da Silva (Mpumalanga, 2020-04-10)

#1746

I have the right to choose whether I smoke or not. This is s complete contravention of my human rights

Debra Forret (Alberton, 2020-04-10)

#1750

I am a smoker. The situation is stressful enough. Now you take a part of our coping meganism away. Withdrawals are real. You are going to have more mental issues with people.

Chantall Geyser (Amandelbult, 2020-04-10)

#1753

I'm signing this as it is our constitutional right to choose to smoke! I understand why the government is doing this, however, I don't agree with it.

Bev Walker (Durban, 2020-04-10)

#1762

Ive been smoking for 30years.
You legalise dagga but take away our choice or human rigt to smoke. This country is becoming more of a joke every day!

Christo Baker (Cape Town, 2020-04-10)

#1767

Nobody can tell me not to smoke, especially not a character like Cele.

Gideon Van Niekerk (Cape Town, 2020-04-10)

#1769

I am a smoker and had enough sigarettes for the initial lockdown period now they extended it, how are we suppose to come by? I see no need why do we have a ban on sigarettes? People dont go out socialising when they smoke, they smoke mostly to help deal with stress, which we all have alot of right now. Bring back smoking!!!

Janine Wiggill (Randfontein, 2020-04-10)

#1778

The crime not only in theft will rise, but also in the household.

Ruan Matthysen (Bloemfontein, 2020-04-10)

#1779

Smokers are adults and its tough enough for people having to deal with lockdown rules. Importantly majority of South Africans are adhering to the lockdown rules. No where is there medical evidence that smoking aids deaths linked to Covid-19. You are also adding to the spread of the virus, as smokers will now go and look for people or places who sell these illegally. Government is now providing funding to criminals and causing more job losses and taxes. South Africa needs funding not to just fight this pandemic but also economic stability as we are already in serious trouble. I am not a smoker but banning this without giving proper notice before lockdown not to mention only giving smokers a day notice is a serious problem and we are treating adults as young kids. This ban will (if not) already, increase abuse in households not to mention the stress you are now forcing on smokers bodies. You are impacting on their health and their well-being, causing more harm than good. It has been medically proven that stopping cold turkey, will lead to these people getting ill and some of them very ill. Can your hospital and health system cope with this additional in flow?? Lift the ban, even if you put in place limits to stop panic buying/ stock pilling in order to curb these bulk buyers/hoarders having then to sell these at huge inflated prices. The black market and underground selling of cigarettes which is most probably rife, impacts even more on the poor and desperate souls trying to get their next cigarette.

Elsabe Smit (Tshwane, 2020-04-10)

#1789

Im singing because i smoke and its a stress relief for me and my husband

magdaleen lotter (Nigel, 2020-04-10)

#1795

As an ex-smoker I understand the withdrawals and impact stopping smoking has on the individual in a controlled environment when it is their own choice. This enforced ban can only have a negative impact on all those involved including people who do not smoke.

Pauline Adams (Cape Town, 2020-04-10)

#1800

I am a smoker and I
