It’s unhygienic and a total mess. It looks disgusting.

Adine Krugel (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1210

Sore eye
Safety issues

Surita Stone (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1211

It’s absolutely unexplainable that it’s okay to put tents up in a neighbour like Durbanville!!!!!

Nické Bellingan (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1216

I am concerned that if we allow this then more open spaces will start to become invaded by the homeless. It holds a security and health risk.

Minette Theart van As (CapeTown, 2022-07-15)

#1218

Durbanville must be clean always! We have to act in order to make it happen.

Louis Marais (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1219

In agreement with petition

Lola Burbidge (Durbanvill, 2022-07-15)

#1226

This is an eyesore to our town. Lots of thief and criminals setting up camp there

Berendine Roux (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1227

I AM SIGNING BECAUSE I AM A TEACHER AT THE PRIMARY SCHOOL. THE AREA AROUND OUR SCHOOL IS CONRANTLY LITTERED, I AM TRYING TO MAKE OUR PLAY GROUND AN INTERACTIVE PLAY AREA BUT ALLMY EQUIPMENT DISSAPPEARS OVER WEEKENDS AND OUR DURBAN ROAD FENCE SEEM TO BE THE TOILET AREA - constant feces and toilet paper.

Tina Koegelenberg (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1230

I live in the area and the tent community is getting out of hand.

Debbie Witbooi (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1232

All people deserve dignified housing and ablution facilities. A tentedorp is a health hazard for those who live there, as well as their neighbours.

Lieza Blom (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1235

I am a home owner, parent and concerned citizen of Durbanville. These new 'tent towns' are popping up all over the place these days and we get the impression that the situation is worsening, not improving.

Hendri Schoeman (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1236

The area looks terrible and is a major safety issue.

Nathan Marais (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1238

My kids are in Durbanville Primary, this development is not safe or sanitary and another alternative must be found.

Jeanni Coetzee (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1241

I’m signing this petition because the “tent community” is growing and has become a huge problem. Since they have been dwelling on this open piece of land, petty theft has risen in our community. In the last 2 years I have been burgled 5x. Before that I had NEVER been burgled in my 30+ Years of living in the same house!( I live in van der Byl Ave )
I have also noticed how Durbanville has become dirty with rubbish and filth - this is not the town I grew up in! I am saddened when I drive around our town and see it look the way it does with the rubbish and tent community which is unsightly!

Bronté Coetzee (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1244

There is no toilets or refuse removal and it is a huge health risk. Also it impacts negatively on our property value.
There are solutions other than informal settlements

André Roux (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1247

I'm signing because I am in support of handling this situation as soon as possible in the best way possible. We need to protect our property values and the degradation of our town.

Ingrid Engelbrecht (Vergesig, Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1253

We don’t want squatters in any open space in Durbanville! We’re paying taxes and they don’t! They steal and sell drugs and litter and make open fires! This is not on and they’re getting more and more each day! Enough!!!!

Vanessa Lourens (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1257

It is unacceptable for these people to squat on municipal grounds, and then its across the primary school and church, which makes it dangerous for the children. Crime has sky rocketed in the Durbanville area. They are polluting, using the grounds are their toilet and making open public fires. Its a crime and health hazard!

Marlize Van Wyk (Durbanville Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1258

Dit is 'n bekommernis vir die hele gemeenskap dat die tente opgeskiet het met plakkers wat die gronde gebruik as toilet fasiliteite and misdaad wat ongelooflik verhoog het in die area.

Helmine Van Wyk (Durbanville Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1259

This tenting accommodation in Durbanville must be removed as soon as possible, we can NOT allow this situation, as well as not allow it to escalate.

Anita Vermeulen (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1261

I am signing because I am NOT in favor of the informal tent town

Julia Burns (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1263

I think it's terrible that squatters are being allowed to take over the centre of Durbanville. The number of tents increase daily and it's unsightly and extremely unhygienic. I understand that people need shelter but another facility needs to be made available for them.

Amanda Southey (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1265

The fire they're making is a hazard to our church with a thatched roof and it is a health and safety risk

Elaine November (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1269

We don’t need this on our doorstep. If we agree to allow them to live here get them to pay rates and taxes

Gavin Mc Quade (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1273

The area of illegal tenting - Baxter, Is an eye sore, a worry being so close to our kids school and encourages criminal activity. I would appreciate them being removed and rehoused in a more appropriate area.
Thank you

Tania Trokis (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1277

Its no longer safe as a woman to take walks with my small kids. It has also become quite an eyesore

Cora Sibanda (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1278

I agree with Richard Downing's view and law enforcement should remove this informal settlement and contact the relevant department to move them to a suitable piece of land with facilities. They are breaking many laws while there and authorities are not fulfilling their mandate.

Rob Keith (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1284

Health risk, unruly drunken behavior, petty crime increase

Gerard Montauban (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1285

It is a great concern that this is being allowed to happen and nothing is being done

Sabrina Hallett Hardenberg (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1287

The area is NOT zoned for informal settlements. Further more majority of the residents in the surrounds pay huge amounts in rates and taxes, there is no such thing as free living. Furthermore the unsanitary conditions and behaviour of the informal folk are a major health hazard and CERTAINLY not humane. People chose to live in such conditions snd do not set the example of a healthy. Happy society. I feel the area should be zoned correctly and kept neat and safe. Watching individuals undress and bath in public is NOT acceptable and certainly not fit for children to observe as what we deem proper and respectful behaviour.

Janice Lambourne (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1288

I grew up in Durbanville, I work and live in Durbanville and this is a sight for sore eyes ...especially being across a Primary School!

Sanette Hanni (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1292

I believe these illegal squatters are a security and health risk.

Debbie Wolmarans (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1294

There are no facilities and its a health and safety concern for all the residents of Durbanville.

Peter Vermaak (Durbanville,Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1296

I’m a concerned citizen and also a shop owner and they harassing my customers

Marie Afonso (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1299

Hygenically this is a big health hazzard and alternative places with the right facilities should be found or set up

Marisa Theron (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1305

As a tax- and municipal fee paying resident I am worried about people pitching tents everywhere in Durbanville.

Riette Basson (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1308

Crime has increased in Durbanville without a doubt it is because of all the illegal squatters

Werner Kriel (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1309

I do not wish for Durbanville to become an informal settlement

Chantal Wiese (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1313

In a beautiful town this should not happen at the heart of the CBD

Chantelle Joubert (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1319

This is not on and needs to be managed now - how can this be allowed/permitted to continue. Destitute people needs to be looked after through welfare mechanisms/processes.

Maybe we should withhold property taxes until this is resolved.

Ryno Ruster (Durbanville Hills, 2022-07-15)

#1330

As a rate payer I object to the tent settlement in Durbanville. These people openly admit to want to live on the street and not in a shelter which is unacceptable. Poses a safety and health risk.

Christine Wright (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1340

We are home owners who pays our rates and taxes on time every month

We are part of a community where we would like to feel safe to walk our children to school.

We are extremely worried about the squatter camp 1km from our home in Durbanville.

Marianne du Toit (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1351

I am requesting the removal of the unlawful occupation of land and the dangers to all the school children and others that this poses. They need to be rehoused at available shelters that the Government is supposed to provide for their people.

Laurel Scotson (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1355

My beautiful town that i grew up in is changing into something i can not control. Im signing this because together we can help those in tents and ourselfs with keeping out town clean and free of informal settlements.

I do not wish for those less fortunate to be of any harm i just want to relocate them so that they don't grow to 50 tents over night.

Dylan Malan (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1356

It's degrading our village ... And unacceptable!

Gemé Van Der Berg (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1358

Wilma Van Schalkwyk (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1361

Health and safety hazard

Koosie Truter (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1365

I live in Durbanville and this development is a huge concern to me. It is escalating at the speed of light and I want something to be done about it.

Esmé Tucker (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1368

These tents need to be removed asap, they don't belong there.

Jason Wilkinson (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1371

I fully agree with the comments in this letter and the squatter camp on the main road in Durbanville is a health hazard and totally unacceptable, reducing our property value. It is filthy and full of human excrement, right next to the school.

Margaret Edwards (Durbanville, Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1381

These informal tents is a health hazard to the community. There is no proper ablution facilities etc.

Debbie Mitchell (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1383

All the illegal squaters allowed to stay in tents all over DVille and worse so at the entrance of our village - its an eyesore and its illegal inviting more squaters coming to our village. Unaceptable. No more Covid emergency state so they can be removed and relocated. If they are not removed it will expand into a full on tent city... now that is illegal and a smack in the faces of us as legal rate payers.
We have to act now before it is too late. Your rate payers will revolt and stop paying rates.... God forbid vihilantes may come into play - peope are passionate about Durbanville- surely a more suitable plot of land can be found for them.

Pierre Du Toit (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)

#1391

The level of frustration amongst residents is extremely high and I fear we will see the residents taking the law into their own hands if we don’t coordinate a stop to the new tents.

Victor Calle-Sanchez (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1395

It is disgusting...

Karin Theron (Cape Town, 2022-07-15)

#1397

I am deeply unhappy about plummeting property values where these tents are situated. Also the danger of robbery, mugfings and assault from the people squatting on our pavements.

Sue Botha (Durbanville, 2022-07-15)
