I‘m singing because we need cash money because to keep our independence-that kids learn to handle money and even adults are spending otherwise too much money and they’ll be many in debts - because it’s easier for elder people- small businesses for example at the markets would be out of business otherwise - earning your first money as a kid - wouldn’t be so empowering otherwise, nothing beats holding your first money cash in your hands- only online money has the danger , that it’ll loose its value and there’s a higher inflationChristiane Wagner (Trinity Beach, 2023-03-01)

In my local business I am loosing customers if I can't accept cash! I loose up to 2.6% in EFTPOS/credit card fees - this adds up and really hurts in the current economic climate. I'd risk loosing customers were I to pass on these fees - not an option. Cash is still king. I'd rather support local business (and Council!) by paying with cash, instead of the banks. Bring it back please!Sabine Schroeder (Redlynch, 2023-03-01)

I’ve had a gutfull of this crap paying by card.. I don’t always have money in the bank but I generally always have cash.. It’s an old law but hasn’t been abolished technically that you have to have a certain amount of cash at hand.. also the constitution that it’s an offence to refuse the Queen’s money.. although now King’s money.. cash is King and retains it’s valueMick Miller (Cairns , 2023-03-01)

I’m signing this petition because cash is still legal tender and I do not consent to go just digital currency. It is not an excuse to be blaming covid for this digital currency system.
This should be stopped now and discussed and should be voted on by referendum.
Not decided by council members who should not have the power to decide on this matter.
Thank you for your time

As I pay cash for everything. I would be refused service at all council facilities.Covid is no longer the risk it was, it is just a FLU. Therefore that excuse is flimsy at best.
In what society do we not like social interaction. We are social creatures!!!
As I don't frequent the library or other council facilities often I was not informed of this change. Therefore unable to protest this ridiculous decision. It would nice to be able to choose how I pay. I was interested in going to the night walk with a friend and her children at the Botanical Gardens. However, when I found I cannot pay cash I decided not to go.
I thought it was way to expensive anyway.
This is a totalitarian move on the council's part.
We know the World Economic Forum has a hand to play in this.
Oh, not to mention the George Soros Smart Cities initiative that Cairns Regional Council has signed up to.
Keep cash alive.

Cash has always been the backbone of financial transactions. To eliminate this is a gross inconvenience for many people in our community. Our regional councils are elected by, and should be working for us the people. This move to cashless only seems like bullying, and bowing to the banks' and WEF's agendas. Please explain how this benefits anyone at all!Andrew Zemek (Cairns , 2023-03-07)

We need freedom and choice in how we spend our hard-earned money. Cash teaches numeracy. Children who never see cash will never develop a healthy appreciation and understanding of money. What of people with disabilities who like to buy little things when out shopping? Are they to be denied this? Or give up their autonomy and safety and get their carers to pay by card? Discrimination!Tina Seaton ( Yorkeys Knob, 2023-03-11)
#947
I think creating a card only society is a very foolish move. I thought so even before the crisis in NZ when the power went down and people weren't able to buy their necessities because card readers and ATMs weren't working. Abolishing cash is a totally retrograde decision.Mark Burton (Smithfield, 2023-03-11)
#951

It is a dangerous idea to get rid of cash. It serves only to make it easier for a corrupt system to control the masses. Keep Cash alive.Rita Bruce (Atherton, 2023-03-12)
#956
There are too many technological scams these days. Cash not only helps give that extra bit of safety, but is also the original form of currency and our coins and notes are part of our Australian identity. If travellers come to visit us, cash is also helpful for them as AMEX is not available at every venue. That's how you lose customers. Simply, you don't need to pay surcharge if you're fine paying cash. With inflation and interest rates soaring high and only increasing, why do you need to steal more money from people who are already struggling to get by? A few cents and dollars saved from surcharges DO make a huge difference in savings.Genesis U (Cairns, 2023-03-12)

It is imperative that we keep the cash payments system .Especially with you are paying small amounts, it’s easier. Once cash has gone we won’t have that flexibility or freedom to choose our preferred payment method and what about if the eftpos is out of order, we are stuck .Graham Harris (Cairns, 2023-03-12)

The Council's internal decision to enforce cashless transactions is a severe disadvantage to many Cairns people. We the people elect Councillors and the Mayor and we expect consultation and a voice on important matters that affect the lives of so many people. This decision is clearly in line with the Smart cities and WEF and a move towards digital currancy and ID which removes the privacy and the God given right of autonomy and freedom of choice of each member of the public. I object to the covert actions of Cairns Regional Council which manipulates and removes the rights of Cairns people and of their no consultation approach. This must stop.Kerie Jackson (Cairns, 2023-03-12)

I prefer cashNaomi Currie (Cairns , 2023-03-12)

Aside from hacking and privacy issues, just simple things like kids earning pocket money and taking away the freedoms of roadside vendors. Frightened by the closure of banks? Wait till you phone the bank and an outsource rep from Asia says you don't have an account.Suzy Grinter (Cairns, 2023-03-13)

Cash should always be allowed for payment and settlement of debts. Not all are tech savvy or even want to use internet banking or cards. This is a freedom of choice issue and was decided by un-elected individuals. This should not be allowed.Charles Brittain (WESTCOURT, 2023-03-13)
