I’ve been blessed to know Amy Caprino for all 42 years of my life. I’m petitioning because I respect and honor all that she has done for Moon Gymnastics including but not limited to supporting the employment of Nick Price.

I am signing this because I am a Moon Gymnastics program Alumni and I cannot speak highly enough about the staff and coaches that were there then, that remain today, specifically Amy and Nick. Because of Amy’s leadership and dedication to this program, I was given so many experiences and friendships I otherwise wouldn’t have had. I have some of the most amazing memories from my time in this program and learned a lot of life lessons while there (i.e. how to put in the work for something you want, that it won’t just be handed to you, etc.). With these coaches’ support, I was able to accomplish a lot I otherwise wouldn’t have. I also can’t speak highly enough about Nick. He was a teammate of mine at the time and we have remained very close over the years and his character and love for this program and everyone in it is truly unmatched. Nick genuinely cares about each and every one of these gymnasts and the coaches he works alongside, and for someone to slander his name because they didn’t get their way is so embarrassingly juvenile. To take the power people trust you to have as a school board member and abuse it in this way is completely wrong. Someone who acts in this manner doesn’t deserve to hold the position held and is sending the message to her daughter that it’s acceptable to act as though they’re above the rules. I fully support Nick, Amy, and the entire Moon Gymnastics Program.

I participated in Moon gymnastics as a youth and remember Mrs Caprino as being a dedicated and caring coach

I’m signing this petition because Amy Caprino is the foundation of Moon Gymnastics. The program is about the team, there is no special treatment for anyone, it is built upon a system of fairness. Only showing up to compete means you are an individual and want to win for yourself, there is nothing TEAM about that and it is not fair to the rest of the gymnasts who are dedicated to the entirety of the program.

Isabelle Coulter (Coraopolis, 2023-08-17)

I support Amy

I grew up in this program and under the guidance of both Amy Caprino and Nick Price. Amy has given her life to this program and to the wonderful people that are a part of it. She preaches constant life lessons and always strives to make her gymnasts the best PEOPLE they can be above all else. She is a role model for anyone who is lucky enough to get to be a part of her life that she has built as Moon Gymnastics. This woman has impacted generations of people and has never once shown a disgrace in character as her moral standards are high and that has been something that anyone who knows her can admire.

Nick was always a fun energy to be around and was constantly uplifting anyone who needed it. I got to see him progress in Moon Gymnastics and then get to be coached by him later on. This man wants nothing but the best for Moon Gymnastics and it’s family of gymnasts involved.

I am a moon alumni of 2012. Nick Price was a senior at the time. I remember him being very fun and passionate. He deserves this position!

I have known Amy and Nicole for over 30 years. Both are great gymnastics coaches and great people! They are extremely passionate about gymnastics, dance, and coaching!

Speaking from a parent of 2 girls that came up in this program I am appalled by these accusations. First of all for over 40 years Amy Caprino has been this program. There would be no program without her. She goes above and beyond any coach to create a team experience. If a child cannot make practices then they are missing the biggest party of the program. Team is what Moon Gymnastics is. I also think the record of the program proves that. As for Nick Price, I have been around to see him as a team member and grow up into a fine young man. He has taught my children and is an exceptional coach to all that have had him. He has never been anything but completely appropriate. How dare you attack his personal character.

Dana Coulter (Coraopolis, 2023-08-17)

The program is fantastic. Amy is awesome and has been running a great program for as long as i can remember. It is strict which is why it’s such a great program. Nick Price was a fantastic gymnast and also great coach.

Former student/athlete. It’s Amazing how people that receive a little bit of power such as being a school board member makes them believe they are allowed to try and destroy others lives. Get over yourself. Follow the rules and Unfortunately, your daughter was not able to comply. I was attempting a 2 sport student athlete myself at Moon back in 2000-2003. Football and ice hockey. Because I could not make the tryouts to ice hockey as I was playing in a football game, I was unable to join the team sadly. I understood that rules were rules and that was it. “O and by the way, I was the CAPTAIN of the Ice Hockey team the year before!!! And still wasn’t allowed to participate!

Marco Pietosi (Pittsburgh, 2023-08-17)

I support Moon Gymnastics and the coaches. My granddaughters have been apart of this program and see the benefits of being part of a team. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

I support Nick Price, Amy Caprino and the entire Moon Gymnastics Program 100%…A Fantastic Program…DISCRIMINATION, DEFAMATION of CHARACTER… Ms. Barr should be ashamed of her actions and removed immediately…Disgusting!!!

I know the both the coach and Nick. They are both amazing coaches, mentors, and people. I have a lot of friends who went through the Moon Gymnastics program and had nothing but positive praise for the overall experience.

Krista Ream (Moon, 2023-08-17)

#655

I was a gymnast on the Moon Gymnastics team growing up in the 80s and 90s. Amy was an amazing coach and 1000% dedicated to making us the best versions of ourselves. Our team was a family and from what I understand from my friends who have nieces and daughters on the team - it’s the same now. This is a targeted attack in my opinion and completely based on one persons biased agenda.

Ashlee Cosper (Clinton , 2023-08-17)

I’ve known Mrs. Caprino for decades. She coached my niece and I witnessed her ability as a coach and friend. As a prior high school cheerleading coach, she demonstrated all the talents that I wish I had. As far as Nick Price, I’ll dare you lady!!!, I have never met a more outstanding young man!

Linda Bobish (Oakdale , 2023-08-17)

As a former Moon Gymnastics Team parent, I fully support Amy Caprino as head of the gymnastics program. She and her team of coaches, including Nick, have been positive influences on children of this community for many years. The kids in this program don't only learn gymnastics from her, they learn how to be good, responsible, hard-working people.

Shirley Priola (Moon Township, 2023-08-17)

I’m signing because I support the Moon Gymnastics Association, Moon Varsity/Middle School and Youth teams, as well as Varsity Coach, Amy Caprino and Youth Team Coach, Nick Price. People need to be held accountable for their actions.

I am signing this because I am for girls Moon Gymnastics. I don’t understand the benefit of cutting this program. Why would we you want to eliminate an opportunity for female athletes at the district.

Shelley McMahon (Moon , 2023-08-18)

#678

Amy Caprino has always been an excellent role model, coach and ambassador for moon gymnasts and the township as well. Athletes come to moon to become better at their craft. I don’t believe removing one of moons best coaches because Ms. Barr had her feelings hurt is the correct
move. Perhaps we should look at removing her for trying to push her personal agenda on the parents she should be representing.

Dan Domenico (Moon, 2023-08-18)

#679

Rules are made for a reason!
A similar situation took place in my school district. A board member’s, President any the time, daughter did not meet all the expectations for a school trip. The following year that board member motion to remove the trip for all. It seems like these coaches are doing something right if they have all those titles. Don’t let the temper tantrum of Ms. Barr ruin what seems to be some amazing caring coaches. Personal gain should not be a personal goal of any school board member.

Kathi Wrost (Brooklyn, 2023-08-18)

I only did gymnastics for a few years when I was young, but Amy and every other coach were always kind and helpful.

I support Any Caprino and Nick Price. If Crystal Barrs daughter can’t meet the requirements then she shouldn’t be a part of the team.

Sharon Topor (Moon Township, 2023-08-18)

#688

Monaca Turners is my daughters home club and we compete against only one other club all season long. Removing Moon would leave us to only one and possibly hurt our program. Moon hosts the Melanie meet every March and is nothing but a wonderful experience for our gymnasts. I agree with the coach. Being at practice is part of the requirement and if this gymnast didn’t commit to those requirements the coaches have no other choice than to exclude the athlete. As far as I’m concerned I see this in all sports. Taking this away from Moon would be a huge blow to the school.

I have watched girls grow up and blossom when they found their niche at Moon gymnastics. Obviously the current program is exceptional ! How on earth you could even THINK about listing to just one disgruntled parent defies logic.

Margaret Shaw (Moon twp , 2023-08-18)

Moon gymnastics is a wonderful part of our community and an incredibly successful program. The program would not be what it is today with Amy Caprino. Her knowledge and dedication are integral to the program. I support Moon Gymnastics Association and it's families.

I was a gymnast From 2000 to 2004.
During which time Amy was my head Coach. The reason I'm signing this petition in favor of moon gymnastics program is because I too was in club gymnastics and Struggling to meet the Attendance requirements.

I went to the owners of my club Gymnastics program whom my parents were paying and told them that I'm not able to Fulfill my requirements at the high school level
The club Coaches stated we're happy you're doing gymnastics it doesn't matter where you do it.
When Amy pulled Me aside, she said you're required to be here to make the varsity team. I quit club gymnastics at Level 8 in 10th grade (Which met I was never making it to the olympics...LOL!) My parents gained $600 Per month. It made my life and that of my Parents so much better as they weren't running all over creation trying to get me to multiple gymnastics sessions In the same night. Which had happened for the first two years I was in high school.
As far as Is nick price, He was in middle school when I was in high school. He was in the gymnastics program and we watched him grow up and excel. He was a powerful gymnast. I'm sure he has Gained knowledge and skills from Amy to help teach the younger generations.
I'm sure the current Gymnastics program, parents Appreciate Nick's commitment to excellence as he has Is grown under amy's direction.
FYI we were state and WPIAL champions during my time in gymnastics also.

I graduated high school with Nick. I know he is a good person and does not deserve this!!

Cassie Hezlep (Oakdale , 2023-08-18)

This program is phenomenal. I’m no gymnast, and that was obvious when I gave it a try as a kid. Amy Caprino was not only one of the most supportive coaches I encountered but she also gave me a safe space that made me feel so welcomed and cared for.

Mia Parsons (Moon Twp, 2023-08-18)

#714

Moon gymnastics has been a powerhouse since before I even made it to high school. From what I understand, Ms. Barr is going after these coaches due to personal issues that have nothing to do with the coaches being able to run this top notch program. As a former coach, I find it disgusting that a school board member is using their power to pursue a personal vendetta. It just screams entitlement. Given the amount of support these coaches have received from alumni, parents, current student athletes, plus their plethora of championships and fantastic gymnasts that developed under their tutelage, it’s clear these coaches should remain in their positions. I would go as far as to say Ms. Barr should be removed from the school board for this clear abuse of power.

Eric Elias (Moon Township, 2023-08-18)

Amy Caprino was my coach for 10+ years and I was a part of the Moon Gymnastics program for even longer. I worked as a teacher alongside of her as well. She is an incredible coach who has impacted my life in a positive way. I have known her to be a person of character and principles and is a support for her athletes in and out of the gym. She should be getting an award for her extraordinary dedication to the student athletes and to the community and to the sport of gymnastics, not dealing with this off based complaint against her and her staff. I have no reservations regarding her fairness or honesty. She is a pillar to the sporting community and should be applauded for her lifelong service as a coach. There’s a reason her program has thrived and endured over the years. Love you Amy! If she hired and supports Nick her judgement is to be trusted. We need coaches like Amy and Nick and we need to be supporting them as they invest in our children and community, not practicing slander. All my love and support, Kelly

I’m signing this petition as a parent of two daughters who have been in this program preschool through high school. It it an excellent program with the best coaches and atmosphere you could imagine. Always striving for the best in each individual and pushing them to achieve their highest potential. The root of this issue should throw spotlight on the newest member of the board. Nickie and Amy run a tight ship. Follow the rules or chose to not be a part of the team. It’s that simple. They have done a wonderful job taking these girls to be state and wpial champs multiple times.

Denise Hudzinski (Moon Township, 2023-08-18)

I’m apart of moon gymnastics and I care !

Daysie Steinmetz (Coraopolis , 2023-08-18)

#729

I’m signing this petition because my daughter was a moon area gymnast under Amy Caprino for 9 years. We believe in Amy and her daughter Nicki. They built this program and deserve to keep their positions. They helped young gymnasts believe in themselves, gain strength and confidence. This is a program that we feel strongly about and all do to the leadership of Amy Caprino and her coaches.

Marianne Robare (Moon, 2023-08-18)

#730

I support Moon gymnastics. My daughter learned so much as a gymnast. Her time in Moon gymnastics was a springboard (no pun intended) on an athletic journey that led her to playing volleyball in high school and now in college.

We have a unique program here in Moon that other communities wish they had.

Robert Robare (Moon Twp, 2023-08-18)

#731

I did Moon gymnastics when I was in elementary school and middle school before I broke my arm and was unable to compete anymore. Amy was the best coach and it’s so incredibly sad to hear that this is happening. Shame on the school district for allowing this and shame on Crystal!!!

Alyssa Madia (Moon Township, 2023-08-18)

#736

You’ll never find someone to fill Amy Caprino’s shoes! She has put her whole heart and soul into this program! And has done an excellent job!

Linda Haberman (Pittsburgh, 2023-08-18)

#737

I’m signing this petition because when we don’t abide by the rules, we should accept the consequences of our actions. I’m not from the Moon area, if I’m being honest I don’t even live in the state of Pennsylvania. My sister however is a Moon alumni and a continuing supporter of the gymnastics team. As I read about this situation I became enraged. Enraged that nowadays folks think it’s acceptable to complain and spread terrible lies about people, just to get their way. What kind of example does this send to our kids? Instead of accepting the consequences and learning from our mistakes, people think it’s okay to tear each other down! Sadly, this kind behavior is all too common these days.

Kelly Rivera (Walkersville, 2023-08-18)

#738

Parents are the worst thing that ever happened to high school sports. Let the coaches do their jobs and stay out of it when things don’t go your way. It’s disgusting that a board member is trying to use her position for personal gain

Kevin Ganska (Porter, 2023-08-18)

#741

This is wonderful program that my daughter participated in for many years. Rec gymnastics, MS & HS team as well as working for the program. Amy & Nick are cornerstones of this program & have both been valuable mentors for countless young gymnasts for the entire time they have been worked for Moon Area School District.

Kelly Rockenstein (Pittsburgh , 2023-08-18)

#743

Amy and Nickie have played a huge part in my life for the past 10 years. They have not only taught me gymnastics, but also taught me so many valuable life lessons. I cannot imagine Moon Gymnastics with different coaches because they put so much time and effort into making our teams the way they are!! Nick has also been one of my coaches throughout the years and brings so much joy to the gym and I would trust him with my life to spot me on any trick😊

Ava Scally (Moon Township, 2023-08-18)

#746

I’ve heard all the way in Michigan the disservice that is being done to this team. It is spiteful and and frankly, bigoted. The fact that this woman has been allowed to get away with this, then the ultimatum that was given, is shameful. Those kids deserve adults who actually care about their best interests, and clearly the school board are not those people. You know better, so do better.

Julia Murray (Kalamazoo , 2023-08-18)

The Moon gymnastics program is not only great for the gymnasts and community, it is the envy of the state for the level of participation, team ethic and success. This program should be supported, not threatened.

I am physically and mentally hurting at the idea and fact the someone can be so evil towards a program which has left the biggest impact on my life. I grew up with Nick Price’s name being constantly said around the gym, not only as a gymnastics, but him as a good person. When I got older, I started coaching team kids and had to the honor to coach along side Nick. This is where I saw his true character and learned he is a man that stands for helping other, equality, bringing out the best possible version or gymnast someone can, and most importantly the person who would drop everything to help you. I can’t even begin to say how thankful I am to be apart of this program and everything Amy and Nicki Caprino have taught me. This program has taught, shaped and impacted my life more than any other part of my life has. They have taught we me more values, morals and standards that in the past 22 years I have not learn from anywhere else.

Amanda Crago (Coraopolis, 2023-08-18)

Amy Caprino has been an incredible, positive influence in the lives of thousands of young girls in the sport of gymnastics and in the game of life in a career that has spanned more than four decades. I am a 1982 graduate of Moon, and know Amy’s reputation and work ethic from her years working with my father, Rip Scherer. He spoke of her with admiration and gratitude.

To allow her reputation and her future as a coach to be tarnished and jeopardized is a disgrace. Do not let the spite of an off-put and angered few take an irrecoverable toll on the Moon gymnastics community. Retain Amy and celebrate her contributions to-date and for years to come.
