Keep cash alive! Cash is available at all times. Cash is available when there is a power outage, which we have been told by government is something that is going to happen regularly in the near future. Renewables will never provide enough electricity to keep Cairns Region electric. Not accepting cash is NOT in the interest of citizens. It's more control. We do not comply.

Cash is a form of currency and the cost of living is going up, Council cannot be fussy with which form of payment we locals and residents choose to use, also not everyone has a debit/credit card available, accessible, cash is currency!?Real events from Jan 2023 I was doing my yearly cyclone season/ spring clean and hired a trailer for the job. The cost of living has gone up and a unexpected bill had come out of my card and taken the last amount of money I had which was for the dump run. Luckily I could over draw cash out, so I did. I continued on my way to the dump, as I went to pay for my $12 medium load with a $20 note I was turned away and told we don't take cash and councils given lots of notice to the public. Shocked. What do you meeEaAnn? I've just loaded a full trailer that's already been paid for and hired for the day, how can I not empty it!? I can't dump it because you don't accept cash! Now that's some real rubbish. Also These changes were not publicly advertised or heavily notified to the public or else these changes would have been fought against earlie. It's silly. Stop being silly.

Cash is our legal tender and should always be accepted...Although cards can be convenient they can be lost , stolen, damaged or simply not preferred...
Council have no right to stop accepting cash and then complain when our banks all pack up and leave town.. 😏

Real money that is hands on is far better and easier to use than tapping your card. Banking institutions make money on each transaction when tapping.Inserting your card is better. But cash is even better again and faster then inserting your card.
Our youth are loosing the value of counting. Paying for small items like drinks and newspapers or buying bananas on the side of roads. Putting coins into street parking. Or going to our library. Dump fees on people who only want to keep their homes clean are another burden on living costs.
It’s easier to budget your wallet.

We should not abandon cash to be reliant on a digital system that could crash at any second for any reason. Cash in some ways represents freedom from tyranny. We should not blindly follow the narrative telling us that cashless is the way forward in a modern world. This narrative has been constructed by billionaires trying to make the population do what they want, not what is good for us.Al Boulton (Cairns , 2023-02-26)

I want to have choice of paying cash. Using cash helps people budget and spend more wisely, reducing the debt the is overtaking society. If you want to help the people of cairns you will look into the statistics of paying cash over card, and realise that you will be helping our city financially. Also it's a bit hard to pay by card when there is a power outage. Use common sense.Annette Stary (Cairns, 2023-02-26)

I run a small business within the Cairns community as well as regional and we need cash to ensure on the spot payments for our services and products.A cashless society basically weakens the mainstream people from doing day to day transactions whether it's paying for groceries or a service for example a furniture removal after the completion of the job.
We also get charged enough fees and charges by the banks and to be able to limit this by paying cash is the way most people can save on these fees.
Atleast you know when being paid by cash that you have been paid right there and then and not relying on a bank transaction or credit card payment.
