As a womxn who started her life at UWC and to have it end so abruptly is sad...we need to remember her life, what she wanted to achieve and could not.

As someone who is passionate about fighting Gender-Based Violence, I believe this is a good initiative to commemorate all those who fell victim in the hands of men.

She deserves to be remembered beyond being a murder victim. They all do. #SayHerName

I miss her everyday. And my family will never be the same without her. So to remind woman that we do not have to stand for gbv.

Let her memory be forever lasting and let it be a remembrance for all men, this is not how we behave, we must be better

Brandon Engelbrecht (Cape Town, 2020-08-27)

Her brightness is worth changing the art of normalized gender based violence into something intolerable and this building that many of our UWC community walk past will remind them that women and society is standing up against this. A weak man might has struck her down but we her fellow sister will raise her up again bigger and stronger.

We usually forget the people who we lost but last year was a big reminder that we as woman deserve more and some didn’t live to get that day so can we remember a soul that had her whole future in front of her and never forget.

I’m signing because Jesse deserves to be remembered for more than what happened to her. She’s needs to be remembered for her passion, her hopes and her dreams. This is a symbolic change that I hope will be the jumping off point for institutions, government and people to start taking the issues of GBV seriously. I hope this shows them that Jesse and so many others are not statistics but people who had hopes and dreams for the future.

Mikhail Arendse (Cape Town, 2020-08-27)

Daiyaan Stead (Paarl, 2020-08-28)

Justice needs to be given for Jesse Hess. Her friends and family loved her and she was a good person. The people I know have been personally impacted by this. She did not deserve to die. She did not deserve to die the way that she did. She was supposed to live. Her name should live on and respect should be delivered with her name. Her chance to be even greater than she was, was taken away for no reason. Justice for Jesse Hess.
