I believe that great consideration needs to be given to the amount of money that has been spend, on this school in recent years. To close it would be a total waste of taxpayers money and council funds. In addition to this, it has excellent SEND Provision and is highly regarded in this area. This is something that our Island Schools, seem to consistently struggle with being able to make adjustments for children with additional needs, however Oakfield has a good reputation.

My twins started at this school and only moved due to a flat becoming available in Newport. One twin has learning difficulties among other things and Oakfield were amazing with her, I’d rather have them there than where they are now.Abbey Grant (Newport, 2024-09-05)

I’m signing as a teacher of thirty years and both my cousins teach on the Isle of Wight. Schools are the hub and safe place of the community. They should not be closed down. The affect on the children and staff will get incredibly disruptive and damaging for their emotional wellbeing.N Hunt (Tarporley, 2024-09-05)

Ryde is a high poverty area and for people to need to walk to nearly Binstead is not achievable. Attendance levels will plummit as a lot of parents will not be able to afford to use public transport to get their children to school. Thinking of climate change too it's more likely more traffic will be on the roads which is obviously bad for the environment. Families need schools in a walkable distance as they act as a hub of support. Taking Oakfield Primary away will undo all the hard work the school has done for their families and community.Jo Wilson (Ipswich, 2024-09-06)

This schools survival is key to our community as the only CofE school, the fact it is purpose built and can accommodate future children from the 1,600 planned new homes in Ryde East, because in reality it is a excellent school where children are supported and thrive, meeting their potential. It is built for children with room for expansion as well. The demographic means huge challenges trying to get to alternative schools financially and practically adding further barriers to already stretched families. Lastly, because they took me son Arthur in when he was managed out of this old school full time from day one, improving his well being significantly. Another move for him would undermine this as change as an SEN child would undermine this.Lorraine Lawton (Seaview, 2024-09-06)

Beautiful school site that has a new building, it has history over the years of being a great school and where I went to school when it was a middle school before all the previous changes, we need to keep these type of schools and stop so much over crowding in the class rooms to help give a better education to the next generation.Robert Sexton (Ryde, 2024-09-06)

This school is an invaluable provision for Ryde children - particularly for parents who live in the area and will be unable to easily get their children to school elsewhere. The provision for SEND is exceptional and over a number of years they have accepted children for whom no alternative has been available. All children thrive at this school, particularly through the innovative ‘Forest Schools’ programme which will be lost to their current cohort if they are forced to move location. This is an area with a high population of families. A closure is not going to be advantageous to anyone. If further provision like Medina House is needed then enlarge existing provisions on ready made sites and leave Oakfield to continue with its own school life.

This would seem to be short sighted. A building not requiring maintenance or updating in a beautiful position, that is obviously popular with families as the numbers on roll suggest it is full.Primary education should be part of a community, not very young children having to make longer journeys. Where parents can be involved and invested. What a great loss this would be.

Showing support to a local school as an island resident. The council need to focus on cost cutting else where and stop punishing the kids who are the future of this island!Craig Gillam (Cowes, 2024-09-06)

Populations change. I can’t believe the cost involved in closing and opening schools in tow with fluctuating demand is the most viable approach - especially if you were to factor in the impact such change/uncertainty has on primary school children and families.Frederick Howard (London, 2024-09-06)

This school is urgently needed to give the young children a good start towards adulthood. Closing so many schools (especially primary schools) is ridiculous. This one more so as there is more houses being built in the area who I assume you want to attract young families, the classes are overcrowded now, so the council are condoning more children not being able to read and write as the teachers can only do so much and larger classes is not the way. I was in the tree tier system and the classes were too large then.ERICA BARTON (Ryde, 2024-09-06)

My lady worked at the school for over 15 years. She completed her teacher training at the school and decided to stay as she had a great working environment and did everything she could have done to make sure each and every child had the best start to life that she could provide. She was a popular teacher at the school and was well liked by parents children and her colleagues. I have to believe that 15 years of our life was worth something and that she made a difference. By closing this school you will deny a good start to school life experience to so many children and parents alike. The school has lots of children with a special need that if this opportunity for them is taken away then what chance will they get.Suffer the little children.
