Walking is the last time many will be around their academic peers and in the company of their teachers, who taught, guided, and mentored them, to achieve the greatness that graduation represents. It's a chance to revel in the shared identity of your time together and the shared excitement for what comes next. Please give this student a “chance” to walk across that stage. Many make mistakes, but there’s always room for a second chance & I’m sure that it will be a learning lesson for the child. Please don’t ruin this for him. He deserves it. Right along with every other senior that’s graduating.John Osborne (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

This is just devastating for a child to not be able to walk at his graduation over a fight were he defended himself. Not to mention students work hard to complete high school to be able to walk the stage with their peers. Thier parents spend a lot of money on school events, senior pictures and all the other graduation stuff. I don't think it's fair to not allow him to walk the stage because he has earn it.Louwanda Hickmon (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

Everyone has made mistakes that is what makes us human. Sometimes we are put in situations that we have no control over and This child deserves to walk on his graduation.Lerutheanna Tillman (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

I am an alumni of Central High and I do not agree with the decision of not allowing this young adult to graduate. A person should not be reprimanded for defending themselves.Kira Little (Philadelphia, 2024-05-17)

This young man was defending himself . There was witnesses saying he was defending himself. It shouldn’t have to give up what he worked so hard for because of another young man’s ignorance.Kim Miles (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

It’s the right thing to do. Taking something from a young man that you can never give him back is not a punishment he deserves. It’s wrong in so many ways. I don’t even know how this was ever a thought in an adults mind. A day of community service cleaning the school grounds or something similar would be punishment not taking something he worked hard for because he took up for himself. This is why kids never report bully’s because both students end up punished. Our school systems need to do better.Grace Simpson (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)
#428
What did they want him to do? Let the boy beat the hound dog out of him? No. He defended himself. He’s worked hard for all his accomplishments. Are y’all trying to set the example that one moment defines his future? No.Ana Sanchez (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

This is an injustice, if the student was defending himself and has paid his dues academically and has been a Student with no record it would be an injustice to not allow him to walk.Yesica Holt (Milwaukee, 2024-05-17)
#434
Based on his history he should be allowed to walk and not punished for being attacked and responding to the attack(defending himself) by someone with a history of discipline problems.Dwan McQueen (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

I am signing this petition because I went to Central high school as well. I am a graduate of the class of 2022. My name is Kody Dawkins everyone calls me “Blue”. Denorris it’s not a bad kid he stays out of trouble and keeps to himself. There should not be a reason why he is being denied to walk across the stage for his graduation after All his hard work that he has put in throughout school, on the football field, and on the track In my opinion, this really should not be a debate as central high school has The background Of the ninth grader who started it all, and most likely the footage of what happened so there really should not be a issue with him walking across the stage for graduation when there is video proof of what happened when it happened and statements from students of what happened and even the teachers are coming out to vouch for Denorris, but yet the principal still says no, and now a petition has been made for the student to walk across the stage at his graduation. In all my years of going to Central high school, I never knew that defending yourself when another person puts their hands on you that could cause you Not to walk across the stage at your graduation, even though you did it as self-defense, and now all the students in that school will realize if they try to defend themselves in a fight or an altercation they will be risking their big day that they are going and staying in school for, and they will be risking not walk across the stage at graduation. You have two backgrounds, one of a ninth grader who has a bad history, and on the other hand, you have a senior, who has never caused trouble a day that he has been at that school, and yet you were holding the seniors graduation hostage, because he decided to defend himself? And not only that the senior apologized over and over again, saying he never wanted to fight he never wanted that to happen. This should not be a thing nor a discussion. As a graduate from Central high school in 2022 I am somewhat ashamed to say I came from this high school now that I see what kind of people were left in charge of it. Let that senior walk across the stage, he earned it after all, don’t take it away from him because he was put in a situation where he had to defend himself.Kody Dawkins (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

I myself was a student at Central High and was the target of a mass cyberbullying attack that caused the school to be locked down due to shooting threats. I was innocent. And the boys that initiated the attack online both got to walk the stage. If they can do it so can Denorris Wilson. Fair is fair.Mason Elks (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

It was not his fault if he’s a good student, making good grades and in sports and never been in trouble up until the kid hit him he’s definitely not the problem here. Let him Walk and receive his diploma Pageland High School dont be a example of being a failure to this society!Kierra Wilson-Taylor (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

I’m signing because I know Dennoris, I work with him and I know what truly happened, it was self defense and it wasn’t his fault. Dennoris apologized and he wouldn’t do something like that, let alone the day before his last day of school. Dennoris deserves to walk that stage with the rest of our senior class.Sherlyn Espinosa (Pageland, 2024-05-17)
#453
This is a good young man who does brother anyone and has worked so hard to finish school. He was only defending himself which is our human right and plus it was only 1/2 of day left for school he had attacked the whole year.Josephine Moore (Mc Bee, 2024-05-17)
#458
I feel as if this is not fair for him especially because other students whom were involved arent getting this same treatment, 1 student bein a senior & the same age as denoris .. its not fair at all .. he deserves to walk .Makiyia Blakeney (pageland, 2024-05-17)
#461
I am signing because it is total nonsense for a student with no previous discipline record to be denied the opportunity to march at his much anticipated graduation day because he defended himself by having to fight a known trouble maker. There is no justification for this principal's decision. Therefore this young man should be allowed to march.
Patrise Webber (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

In my understanding from previous children I have been in contact with why was a child that was in DJJ in school and not in alternative school? Denoris is a great kid and has always been this should not be taken from him.. If this was to happen earlier in the year he would been able to return back to school and walk with his graduating class but because this happened at the end of the year it will cause him not to walk. Why take something from him that he has worked for and punish his parents from seeing him do one thing we look forward to all year.. Ask your self what if this happened to your child would you want him to miss this huge mild stone in your life because of one incident especially if he didn’t have a bad track record.Jessica Crawford (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

For a first offense, this young man deserves to walk with his class!Shenique Funderburk (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

I'm signing because he should be able to walk, he didn't start the fight and he didn't want to fight. He was simply defending himself as he should have.Daisia Johnson (Chesterfield, 2024-05-17)

That young man was defending himself. Would you prosecute an adult for defending themselves from an attacker? All that is being done is teaching our children that of they try to stand up for themselves and take care of themselves they will be punished for it.Sabrina Campbell (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

This gentleman is enrolling in the armed forces. This is a small accomplishment compared to the impact he will make on our country. Let this young man obtain his high school diploma. This petition speaks for itself. Why is someone that defended himself against an attack getting punished. Never even seen this young man waste his time on confrontation or nonsense..so his past 4yrs should definitely not be a waste. He’s a good young man, he should walk with class of 2024!Tomika Belk (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

I’m signing because this man needs to walk at graduation. Having 4 years of hard work and dedication taken away from you is not a good thing!! The principal needs to realize this. It was not his fault.Kristen Galloway (Columbia, 2024-05-17)

I feel this punishment is way to serve and unfair. He has no disciplinary actions against him in all his 4 years all passing grades and was just defending himself, so i don't think this should be his 1 and only punishment. Furthermore this school and new heights middle school are the worst in the county. Defending your self is not ok they just expect kids to get beat on and take it. This young man has spent the last 4 years doing everything right and this problem child started the fight by hitting this young man and he is the one who is losing the most.Brandi Mangum (PAGELAND, 2024-05-17)
#544
This child needs to experience him walking the stage. Seems to me he has been an outstanding student. I don’t see any issue because he was defending himself, as you should.Donnice Seegars (Gray Court, 2024-05-17)
#548
This is not right. He has been a model student/athlete this whole time. Other kids look up to him and his accomplishments. Jr is a lover, not a fighter. This other child was the problem, Jr was only defending himself. There are soooo many kids who never get to graduate for all kinds of reasons, but this is just unfair. The principal needs to let JR walk that stage with his classmates as he worked very hard to get there.Danielle Johnson (Andalusia, 2024-05-17)
#553
It's not fair that he shouldn't be aloud to walk because of self defense. He has done everything else right in school good grades, plays sports, he doesn't do wrong. Obviously no one's perfect but this wasn't his fault he didn't start it so he should be able to walk like everyone else he deserves it after four years of high school!!Khloe Macer (Andalusia, 2024-05-17)
#558
It’s downright unfair to punish him for defending himself. They gave the student that returned from DJJ a second chance and look what he done in return. So why not give this young man a second chance. The principal is willing to sacrifice his future because of one incident is truly heartbreaking.💔 💔💔💔Joyce Melton (Cheraw, 2024-05-18)

I believe this young man should be able to march. The cameras don’t lie, he didn’t start it. This is out of character for him. So he should be given the same grace and mercy we receive daily from our Lord and Savior. It’s not how good we have been that we’re graced from day to day, but it’s the mercy of God. Whatever we sow we reap, sow mercy and reap mercy.Kendra Watson (Cheraw, 2024-05-18)

I disagree with the decision the Principal of the School obviously made on ultimately an Independent decision. Especially when Student in questions character is obviously positive for Teachers and other staff to want the sole decision of the Principal reversed.Kanda Gilmore (Dozier, 2024-05-18)
