The city of Brigantine is corrupt and managed by corrupt officials.

I am a renter, this will most definitely increase the cost of an already expensive rental so we will go somewhere cheaper. This in turn will hurt the town.

I am a STR owner and have been renting my place to families and nice tenants since 1986. My repeat tenants give me a hug when they arrive and when they leave. One long time tenant even came to my husband’s viewing. We have a nice relationship with our tenants.

There are detrimental effects of the existing proposal. Most present residents started first renting in Brigantine and then buy.

Brian Belko (Brigantine , 2023-09-05)

It's wrong to restrict the rentals. Not everyone can afford to buy a shore house.

I feel it is unfair for Brigantine homeowners as many of them rent out their properties & it should not be up to anyone to tell them length of time for them to rent their property out. I don’t even own a house in Brigantine but feel this is ridiculous.

I strongly oppose the councils hastily proposed STR legislation. It paints with a broad brush without having the proper data points or economic impact studies to support it. The plan for how these additional taxes will be utilized also remains murky and seems targeted more towards Brigantine's ongoing budgetary short comings than any real issue with STRs.

My wife and I fell in love with Brigantine a little over 5 years while visiting friends that had purchased homes here. We then put in plans to save and research the market in order to make our dreams of joining them as Brigantine home owners a reality. Last year we finally made those dreams come true and purchased a blighted property that we completely refreshed and beautified to the benefit of our neighborhood. (Which is tight knit between full time residents and STRs).

We rent out the property not for exorbitant wealth, but to offset the carrying costs. We rent directly to small families during weeks we cannot use the property ourselves which injects thousands of dollars into the community each week we do. (Our guest book is filled with entries from guests detailing the wonderful time they had and all the Brigantine establishments they patronized while visiting (we also make recommendations of our favorites)).

We take the commitment to our guest families who are entrusting their limited number of vacation opportunities and funds with us and our great shore town very seriously. No mandated agency is going to care more or act faster to any needs of our guests needs more than we already do ourselves.

If this legislation is enacted I fear the negative effects it will mean for our local business, property values, and tourism goals for Brigantine.

I believe the city council is moving too quickly with the proposed regulations. As a summer resident and STR operator, I know that the vibrancy of our island is provided by our visitors. Enforce the existing laws!

I am a second-home owner in Brigantine. I am concerned that the current administration is likely to cause great harm to this wonderful community by its poorly researched actions that will increase cash flow to the city but not deal with the small number of problems that exist.

STR in Brigantine helps all aspects of our local economy. Very against a 30 day min rental in off season as most visitors only book 1 or 2 day visits during that period for a weekend getaway. Over regulating will not solve the issues of concern, enforcing current laws will do that.

Peter Smithson (Brigantine, 2023-09-05)

#466

I will be directly impacted by these unfair and unreasonable recommendations.

Susan Page (Brigantine , 2023-09-05)

#468

I will be negatively impacted by the STR rules proposed by the City of Brigantine. There are currently rules in place that, if enforced properly, will negate a need for such unfair measures.

Short term rentals are a staple to the brigantine beach economy. Property owners should not be responsible for footing the bill for the life guard pension.

My husband and I are self employeed business owners in Brigantine. I have been cleaning STR's in Brigantine for the past 9 yrs on a weekly basis.(My husband has a taxi service) I currently make enough income to support my family in the "off-season" and if these proposed regulations were to go into effect (especially the 30 day minimum) I would completely lose all my income and ability to support my family. I feel there are many other actions the city can take without drastically effecting the islands "off-season" economy. For these reasons I support this petition.

James Cannon (Brigantine , 2023-09-06)

My family bought a home in Brigantine with the intention of spending much of our time there as we near retirement. Rental income allows us to maintain two homes. We screen our short term renters carefully and maintain contact with them to ensure they are respectful of their neighbors and the community.

Joel Friedman (Brigantine , 2023-09-06)

#500

I staunchly believe in a resort town's duty to trust its tax paying and economy-supporting inhabitants to manage their homes as they see fit, within the realm of city-wide regulations that all visitors and homeowners are expected to uphold. Singling out STRs is discriminatory, stifles the economy and damages Brigantine's brand as a living destination.

Christine Archer (Brigantine, 2023-09-06)

#501

I want to preserve my property rights. This is a case of failure to enforce existing laws, and the proposed solution is overkill and really doesn’t address the stated complaint.

Gina Iannuzzi (Brigantine , 2023-09-07)

Brigantine should not be allowed to dictate how many days tourism rentals should be. Tourists bring money to the Island, and patronize businesses. These issues need to be transparent to everyone so that any issues can be dealt with above board with honesty.

Susan Ellen (Glassboro, 2023-09-08)

Before I purchased my vacation/retirement home in Brigantine, I had the pleasure of staying at a few STRs. I am signing because I want to have the opportunity to provide other families with the wonderful experience that I had. I am also signing because I believe that gov't should not make arbitrary rules without data or input from all. And, I am signing because I appreciate someone putting together this STR Committee to support our community.
