Ripon Barracks: Better Roads Before New Homes

Comments

#403

Roads need to be priority the condition is horrendous at the moment.

Laura Turner (Ripon, 2020-09-13)

#404

The road network on the west side of ripon all coverge into the city centre which causes congestion. So it makes sense to improve the road infrastructure before the introduction of further traffic this side of the city.

John Turner (Ripon, 2020-09-13)

#408

We need better road system and more options for The Riponians

Mark Renton (Ripon, 2020-09-13)

#409

This is an environmental disaster in the making! Including destroying a large area of woodland to build a sports pitch when there are 8 already on site!
There will be a fatality on Clotherholme road if this goes ahead!

Neil Devine (Ripon, 2020-09-13)

#410

Ripon city centre is already becoming too busy at peak times. An increase in the population of 25% or so, with the consequent uplift in domestic & service traffic, with further exacerbate this issue and its environmental effects. Further, the roads into town from Clotherholme are unsuited to such an increase.

Nigel Bower (Ripon, 2020-09-13)

#416

If more houses are built on this side of Ripon The effect of more vehicles trying to get through the city, will cause chaos without another road included in the plan.

Michael Tinsley (RIPON , 2020-09-13)

#417

I am seriously concerned about the volume of traffic that will be using clotherholme road when this site is developed.

Carolyn Holbrook (Ripon, 2020-09-13)

#419

Roads will not cope

Dave Tonks (Ripon, 2020-09-13)

#421

As an ex Sapper I spent a great 5 years in Ripon, and it's a shame the barracks is disappearing. But surely the current infrastructure should be improved before any further housing is built?

Paul Potter (Paignton, 2020-09-13)

#424

Though I'm pro extra housing in Ripon on this site, I'm against it going ahead without the provision of extra roads, school facilities and surgeries.

Michael Parker (Ripon, 2020-09-14)

#425

More new houses means more cars on an already inadequate road system. You only have to see the morning traffic on Clotherholme Road when the pupils are going to school to appreciate the problem.

Roger I'Anson (Ripon, 2020-09-14)

#426

I am not objecting to housing development, but it makes no sense to build 1300 houses without very substantial improvement to road access. Building needs to be restricted until better roads are provided.

Gerry Johnson (Ripon, 2020-09-14)

#427

As a business owner (veterinary) in Ripon at the Bishopton end of town, I regularly see the congestion and occasionally dangerous congestion around the grammar school and college.
Traffic in this area also congests access to Kirby Road both directly and by feeding traffic into the Ripon. As well as the safety concerns vets on emergency call outs may be impaired from getting into the countryside immediately north of Ripon if traffic in the part of town is mismanaged.
I'm very concerned about all these implications without some serious investment in road infrastructure given the incredible scale of this development.
The scale of this development

Philip Alcock (Ripon, 2020-09-14)

#428

Ripon is a beautiful historical city, that does NOT need to become over populated with homes. Over population will spoil the gorgeous scenery and increase the carbon footprint. Please do not fix something that is not broken.

Charlotte Beck (Ripon, 2020-09-14)

#430

Wholly inadequate road access

Barrug Hardy (Ripon, 2020-09-14)

#431

Traffic problems mainly. Bishopton Lane is dreadful and so narrow - any further traffic on roads around will cause chaos.
Harrogate council planning do not consult or put up notices as we have found.

Frances Morgan-Rogers (Ripon, 2020-09-14)

#434

I'm signing because the solution for increased traffic needs to be in place well before this development.

Bob Burke (RIPON, 2020-09-15)

#435

The development of the MOD land makes absolute good sense and is a much better site than others in Ripon. It is a gift to developers and, in light of that, perhaps they might be more generous to us, the already existing residents. Access roads are absolutely essential to the proper functioning of an already congested city. It is not good enough to tinker about with cycle lanes and pedestrian ways. Traffic is the problem.

Frances Parker (Ripon, 2020-09-15)

#436

I am a local resident and am concerned that without proper infrastructure we will have problems with our local roads and I worry for the safety of pupils traveling to and from school especially.

Ann Lewis (Ripon, 2020-09-15)

#438

I ,the undersigned, call on Harrogate Borough Council to reject the Homes England planning application for Ripon Barracks Development until significant infrastructure improvements have been agreed, ensuring existing residents don’t lose out by further traffic congestion.

Corry Holdsworth (RIPON, 2020-09-16)

#441

I am signing because a new feeder road linking Galphay Lane to the Barracks development if 1300 new Homes are to be built. The traffice on the west and north sides of Ripon already is gridlocked at least twice a day with people going to and from work and schools.

Anna Nabarro (Ripon, 2020-09-16)

#443

I request HBC to override the decision of NYHighways (when it comes, which it will, BIshop's Glade is our evidence) that, as it conforms to NPPF requirements on traffic impact, there will be no statutory reason for rejecting this application as it stands. The facts can override ideology if enough people are prepared to stand up.

Matthew Adamson (Ripon, 2020-09-17)

#445

Poor roads, very bad around school times , an accident waiting to happen every day, there has already been a few accidents to date. Do we have to wait for a fatal fatality Before anything is done. The roads aren’t coping and will be worse when the camp area is being developed. We need action to stop using Clotheholme road as the the main route to and from the camp site. The Grammer / Outwood academy schools need to address the problem of their students parking on Clotheholme road and all the side roads off clotheholme road. This causes a big problem for all residents re congestion at school times.

Brian Harrison (Ripon, 2020-09-17)

#446

A relatively sudden 25% increase in population will cause havoc not only with inadequate roads (average two cars per new household) but also with and public services such as surgeries and schools.

John McKeown (Ripon, 2020-09-17)

#451

Whilst I accept that new houses are needed and may benefit the city, the road infrastructure is totally inadequate to cope with the number of additional vehicles they would generate.

Neil Mortimer (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#452

Ripon’s roads are horrendous

Vicki Bostock (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#455

Our roads cannot cope at present . There is a lot of development already started. The extra being accessed through Doublegates on to Clotherholme are of particular concern. Parking is also already difficult. This is madness to to add so many more and make existing problems infinitely worse.

elizabeth mckeown (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#460

The state of the roads in Ripon are a complete joke at the moment, the infrastructure of the city cannot take any more new houses without this being significantly improved. The quality of the houses that will be built will be inferior and in my opinion not fitting with the rest of the city charm. The houses that will be built will not be affordable for the majority of people. Ripon does not need more housing until the infrastructure of the city has been improved to accommodate those of us that already live here.

Jen Spink (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#462

HBC need to redress all the chaos they help create by granting planning permissions. It is not just NYCC but Yorks water etc etc

Kath West (Thirsk, 2020-09-19)

#463

Due to children being run over and the road structure is inadequate

Dave Grainger (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#469

A link road is essential

Susan Saunders (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#471

The current roads into this planned site are insufficient for the traffic that will be generated. There will be delays, traffic jams and rge risk of accidents at the schools on the route.

Catherine Sharpe (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#472

Theres not enough thought gone into the infrastructure before the planninb - hospital, roads, ambulances etc

Jared Bates (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#474

The existing roads in the area are insufficient and certainly cannot support considerably more traffic.

Marylyn Rafferty (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#476

I am very concerned at the prospect of so many new houses being built without the necessary first the necessary changes in infrastructure being made. Recent roadworks in various parts of Ripon have highlighted how easily the city, with its narrow streets, quickly becomes gridlocked. The proposed development will bring with it many, many extra vehicles which will put huge pressure on 2 main access roads and thus affect the whole city.

Jane Mansell (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#477

I agree with the objections lodged.

Robert Sneddon (Ripon, 2020-09-19)

#480

There is not enough roads to access the area with a bigger volume of traffic Ripon will come to a stand still .. The army should not leave the town .

Anita Danby (Ripon, 2020-09-20)

#481

It is wrong and unjust, by closing the camps, locals will loose jobs and the the connection with military will be lost.. no war to fight so who cares about the army

Michael Danby (Ripon, 2020-09-20)

#486

The roads are ridiculous right now without a further 3000 cars ... it's gridlock in the city when you need to get anywhere ... Traffic needs diverting away from the center ...

Catherine Elliott (Ripon, 2020-09-20)

#492

Ripon is my home town; my Mum, family and friends live in Ripon so I have an interest in what goes on there

Lynda Dale (Limassol, 2020-09-20)

#493

I feel this will create too much traffic for Ripon and there is to many houses already

Jake Sweeney (Ripon, 2020-09-20)

#497

I'm signing this petition because I feel that the developers have not taken into account the hold implications for the safety of school children, given that there are 5 schools and 2 nurseries in the vicinity of the development. Already the feeder roads are congested at school opening and closing times. Additional traffic from the housing development will seriously contribute to congestion, but also air pollution, which research has shown affects children's health. Relief roads from a development, the size of a town like Boroughbridge, must be considered and built if Ripon is indeed to be a city of the future.

Suzanne Brodigan (Ripon, 2020-09-20)

#499

I'm signing because this plan is madness. It's going to be dangerous on the road in Ripon with two high schools due to increased traffic. The air quality will be affected too. It's just a ridiculous idea. See existing traffic chaos at school closing time, see air quality around skellgates.

Emma Pilkington (Ripon, 2020-09-21)

#505

I live on the west side of Ripon and understand the issue.

Mark Feingold (Ripon, 2020-09-22)

#507

I believe a full review of transport and road networks in Ripon needs to take place. Whilst elements of the development are welcomed, the infrastructure needs to be in place first else the city will face gridlock. The city is at breaking point already.

Helen Clarke (Rippn, 2020-09-22)

#511

The roads in Ripon are already poor and more traffic in the Clotherholme area spells disaster

Brian Watson (Ripon, 2020-09-22)

#513

This will significantly impact our area with traffic already too much for the area and current road infrastructure.

Timothy Campbell (Ripon, 2020-09-22)

#516

I'M signing this petition because of the failure of the applicant to show improvements in the infrastructure that would allow the build not to have an adverse effect on Ripon city residents, in particular traffic issues

Martyn Dean (Ripon, 2020-09-22)

#521

Our roads are not designed to take the amount of traffic that this developement will produce. The area needs access to and from the site without having to congest the City centre

Judy Gray (Ripon, 2020-09-22)

#522

Ripon’s infrastructure will not cope with this. The roads are already congested.

Jeanne Mundy (Ripon, 2020-09-22)

#525

I object to the development because the transport and access proposals are grossly inadequate.

Catherine Quigley (RIP , 2020-09-23)

#528

The road situation up clotherome road is a shambles. It’s like a dodgem track

Jean Simpson (Ripon, 2020-09-23)

#531

The developer has a responsibility to ensure that these new properties are serviced with adequate infrastructure. They are clearly shirking this to maximise profit

Richard cox (ripon , 2020-09-23)

#535

I live off one of the only two roads to this development site. Over the past three years we have had to suffer the ongoing building site traffic for an existing development one tenth the size of this proposal. It's had periods where the large vehicle traffic has been dangerous and disruptive.
Without significant infrastructure change BEFORE this proposed development begins, Ripon will be left in chaos.

Ian Kendall (Ripon, 2020-09-23)

#536

Ripon roads are already a mess and need sorting before significant additional housing is built

Barry Crompton (Ripon, 2020-09-23)

#537

I want to see that the impact of the proposed new homes on the town has been properly considered and that appropriate infrastructure is put in place so that the new homes and their inhabitants can be absorbed without chaos ensuing.

Neil Dickinson (Grantley, Ripon, 2020-09-23)

#539

The amount of new builds in the Ripon area have not properly considered the congestion that will be caused by the increase in traffic and other services without attention before building.

John Ditchburn (Ripon, 2020-09-23)

#540

I'm signing this petition because I believe that the survey undertaken by Homes England was inadequate and misleading. The survey was not undertaken at a time when the local schools were open which already results in high volumes of traffic in the west of Ripon and long queues at the junction of Waterskellgate and Harrogate Road.
Although Homes England say they are working on this with the relevant councils there is no positive commitment by any party involved to resolve this issue.
As a resident of Ripon for over 40 years and having been caught up in these queues at peak periods (which results in added pollution around that junction) my local knowledge suggests that the only solution would be to have a new road from the army camp to the southern edge of Ripon. The solution proposed by Homes England for a possible road from the army camp to Galphay Lane would not improve the situation at the Waterskellgate and Harrogate Road junction

Graham Crawshaw (Ripon, 2020-09-23)

#543

My area will be impacted by the additional traffic which is already too much for our road at Bishopton.

Vicky Markham-Campbell (Ripon, 2020-09-23)

#544

I live locally to Ripon and utilise the city as my most local amenities. I understand the congestion strains already in situ and know these will be worsened by further development projects, within and around Ripon. Public transport, especially to surrounding villages and parking facilities do not facilitate alternatives to using these roads.

Gillian Common (Rainton, 2020-09-23)

#546

There is a clear need for further infrastructure. I was involved in the first consultation and raised this then. I am not happy with the answers provided now.

Joe Priestley (Ripon, 2020-09-23)

#548

Current road system not fit for purpose

David Lydall (RIPON, 2020-09-23)

#552

I live on Clotherholme Road and know that the access to the proposed site is not adequate. Traffic is so very heavy on this road at school times so that even our driveways have been blocked and traffic becomes jammed

June Dimery (Ripon, 2020-09-24)

#554

Ripon needs better roads and we need to build communities not throw up houses

Michael Sewell (Ripon, 2020-09-24)

#568

Effective measures to offset the accompanying inevitable increase in traffic are distinctly absent from this development proposal. The existing infrastructure in this part of Ripon will be unable to cope turning Clotherholme Road into another Skipton Road.
The ripples from this infrastructure overload will be felt all over Ripon as major junctions and pinchpoints throughout the town (already under significant strain) buckle.
Increased housing for Ripon has the potential to benefit the area. However, these benefits can only be realised if the executed plans incorporate measures to offset the inevitable associated strains and stresses that comes with significant population expansion.
To stand the best chance of being effective these measures should take into account the views and opinions of local residents, since they have their finger on Ripon's pulse.

Joe Nabarro (Ripon, 2020-09-24)

#570

I am signing because I do not believe the increased traffic into Ripon which passes two large secondary schools at peak hour has been correctly assessed.

Roslyn Swaney (Ripon, 2020-09-24)

#571

The roads & infrastructure cannot support the development but with improvements I would happily see the development go ahead despite it being in 'my own backyard'

Alison Lonsdale (Ripon , 2020-09-24)

#572

Can’t do it any other way

Fiona Harris (Ripon , 2020-09-24)

#573

I don’t think the roads in Ripon are a suitable for the traffic situation as it is with out another large influx of traffic from the building of another 1300 house sect

Keith Joan Anderson (Ripon, 2020-09-24)

#576

Ripon road infrastructure is already gridlocked at certain times of day

Allan Hunter (Hg4 3jz, 2020-09-25)

#581

We need better roads.

Callum Jackson-Argent (Ripon, 2020-09-25)

#584

I am worried about the effect of so many houses on the community and infrastructure of the city

sandra bamford (ripon, 2020-09-25)

#585

Ripon's layout is too old for today's traffic levels. It already needs a north-about ring road. The barracks development would render this (or equivalent) essential - so do it first.

Mr. B. Derbyshire (Ripon, 2020-09-25)

#591

The logic is clear, how can anyone who sees Ripon roads not understand this?

Ann Riley (Ripon, 2020-09-26)

#593

Without major infrastructure improvements this development will cause major disruption to our town for many years to come. The current proposals are an insult to the existing residents of the town and symptomatic of pure profiteering by the developer at others expense.

Mark Bristow (Ripon, 2020-09-28)

#594

I'm signing because I do not agree with a development of this size in this location without a significant increase in infrastructure and new roads before development. The 2 main access roads to this development are B roads in residential areas and include 4 schools, a nursery and a residential homes for the elderly along their routes. I feel that Kirkby Road and Clotherhilme Road should have a traffic weight restriction and calming measures now, nevermind in the future and are totally unsuitable for 40 tomme artics and heavy goods vehicles through these residential roads. Proper infrastructure and a bypass to the North and East would allow the residential areas and city centre to flourish, whereas the existing proposals will only cause congestion, pollution, a significant lowering a quality of life to existing residents and downright dangerous access to schools, services and the city centre for pedestrians and cyclists.

Helen Evans (Ripon, 2020-09-28)

#597

It makes sense.

Sarah Lister (Ripon, 2020-09-28)
