Moira Secondary School- Save our school

Moira is the only high school in the east end and losing it plus the proposal of combining Harry J Clarke, Queen E and Queen V into one "super" school hurts the residents of our area for future re sale value of our homes. The draw for potential buyers is often connected to schools, removing so many options hurts future re sale value in our area! Also from a facility standpoint Moira is better equipped, with better facilities than Quinte Secondary school. I understand there are business reasons behind each proposal BUT we need to be fair to the residents, students, teachers and support staff.

We live in the County and my daughter is in Grade 9 IB Foundations currently and loves people and the school. I believe it is an exceptional learning environment for her and would not want to uproot her from this fantastic school.(Cherry Valley, 2017-05-18)

Moira SS is the only school in the east end, it continues to be an integral part of this area of Belleville. To close this school most kids will have to be bussed further in the morning and afternoon. It will be harder for some families to come to events because of distance, therefor the support to the students may suffer.(Constantia NY, 2017-05-18)

I want people on the east end of Belleville to have a school. For them to not to spend to much time on their commute.(Queretaro, 2017-05-18)

My husband and son went to Moira. It makes absolutely no sense to close the only East end high school and send every teenager in the East end across town to a school that is not as good. Moira and its teachers went over and above for my son who has LDs and has since gone on to University. Moira exudes school pride and is successful in many areas including sports, art, academics and so much more. It makes me mad to think this school would be closed to send the students to Quinte High School when I have heard nothing good about Quinte High School.(Belleville, 2017-05-19)

Because I was a student their myself and understand that it is a crossroads between various cultures from international students, to indigenous Mohawk and other First Nations as well as bellevilles own locally. Also has a great legacy of sports and other after school programs in which all faculty members coach them because they want to not because they have to. They love to help the community(Belleville, 2017-05-19)

Let's make this decision one that is based on accurate information and honest engagement of the community. The current ARC report needs reconsideration and respectful participation of stakeholders.(Belleville, 2017-05-19)

I am signing this because I went to Moira. It is an amazing school, with amazing staff, and amazing programs. I played sports, was in a band and did various of volunteer programs. I made many friends that I am still in contact today with. Moira was more of a home than a school. I would hate to see it closed down.(Belleville, 2017-05-19)

I'm signing because I'm a graduate of Moira Secondary. If it wasn't for the teachers and guidance counselors that I had in highschool I wouldn't be who I am today. My son's dream is to be a Moira student once he's in highschool. The last thing I want to see in this small city is this school closed. Go Trojans.(Belleville, 2017-05-19)

I went to Moira for my last semester of highschool and the atmosphere and people and teachers were amazing! I had no idea highschool could be that inclusive or wonderful of an experience. I wish I had been there for my entire highschool experience! Also Moira is the only highschool in Belleville that offers Mohawk language courses and I strongly believe we should be protecting native languages.(Ottawa, 2017-05-20)

I attended this school and graduated in 2008. I enjoyed the school and the opportunities it gave. This plan would have a negative impact on many members of the Moira Secondary School communityAs a student I have benefited immensely from Moira's leadership programs, sports and clubs. Teachers care about what they teach and students are eager to promote inclusion and spirit.

I have experienced the closing of my high school, BCI, and the negative impact that closure had on families, students and local economy. Moira is important to the history of our school with the many types of educational programming it has offered all students. Positive outcomes don't always come out of closures.(Belleville, 2017-05-21)

This school is a vibrant part of the community and the neighbourhood is in need of a local school that students who live close by can walk to and the specialized programs - destinations, foundations and IB programs are a draw for many people who do not live close by but appreciate the warm, safe and family friendly neighbourhood and atmosphere that this school provides. I am in total agreement of the statement that the petitioner has given in the outset. It will be a real loss to the community.(Belleville, 2017-05-22)
#495
My daughter attended this school and her brother is looking forward to attending. There are alot of Memories in that school for the family. A new school will mean longer transportation and having to rely on school buses to get to and from school, therefore more snow days. If you struggle with school missing these extra days can be very challenging to make up the information missed. I fear that this will lead to more issues with school violence and potential issues with larger populations in one school as well.(Belleville, 2017-05-22)

My son went to Moira and excelled in the sports program ... football and received a scholarship . It's a great school ... please don't close another school !!!! Where would the students go ?? To an already crowded classroom somewhere else ? Like where ? And what about the teachers !!! Do they have jobs when they close the School ?? Sad !!(Frankford, 2017-05-24)

Moira is truly a special place filled with great people: vibrant, motivated, bright, funny, and diverse. A high school in the East End is crucial to this community. There is a direct relationship between proximity to home and providing students with invaluable opportunities to catch up on missed work, get extra help, belong to clubs, organizations, and teams, and engage in other aspects of school life.(Belleville, 2017-05-26)
#516
I'm signing because I have a daughter in Foundations who is committed to her Moira community, who values learning with her MBQ friends, and who is counting on completing the IB programme. So many kids are benefiting from the programs specific to Moira (Foundations, Geoventure, IB, HOPE) but not offered anywhere else in HPEDSB. Keep the many enriching and valued components of our kids' educations at Moira Secondary School - alternative solutions exist!(Belleville, 2017-05-26)

We live right behind it amd my son will be attending in a couple of years. Then he will have to be bussed all the way across town. Not fair.(Belleville, 2017-05-26)

The top reason that we live in Belleville is because of IB program at Moira. If the school is going to be closed, many parents like us may have to consider relocation for better education opportunities for our kids.(Belleville, 2017-05-31)

I went to this high school many years ago and feel that it should stay open. It was a great place to be with a variety of students and great teachers.(Oshawa, 2017-06-01)

We NEED a secondary school in the east wnd of Belleville(St. Thomas, 2017-06-03)
#553
Closing the only high school in the east of the town is absolutely ridiculous. It will cause unnecessary stress to both students and parents. The school board needs to give their heads a shake and think about the negative impact it will cause. Keep Moira open and don't kill the Trojan legacy.(Belleville, 2017-06-05)

I'm in the destinations program and would like to go to the foundations program and the IB(Belleville, 2017-06-05)
#557
I believe the necessity of keeping Destination, foundations and IB program together.. keeping Moira is very important for east end students in Belleville(Belleville, 2017-06-05)
#561
Wow this is the only high school in The East End . My old high school so many many memories,Love Moria. Save The Trojan. Their football team were unbeatable. Please reconsider this for future Trojans to have fond memories(Windsor, 2017-06-06)
#563
Moira offers the foundations and the IB programme which is not offered in any other high school in the HPEDSB. Moira also has a diverse and multi-cultural community which includes the largest number of students from the Mohawk community. Moira is the only high school in the east end and with the growing population in that neighbourhood, it makes sense to keep Moira open. If not, we will be losing a big chunk of our student population to other school boards. Keep Moira open, its a great place to be!(Belleville, 2017-06-07)
#564
I graduated from MSS. I love Moira, please keep it open.(Belleville, 2017-06-07)
#568
combining schools reduces the number of students who can participate in athletics ie Quinte and Moira currently each field sports teams, combining the schools cuts the number of students who can represent their school by playing basketball or volleyball or football, etc. in half. Competing on sports teams at the high school level has a positive impact on a person's self esteem and on their attitude towards athletics and fitness for the rest of their lives! Let's make Moira and Quinte Gr. 7-12 schools instead ...and keep both open.! Let's walk or ride bikes to our community schools, instead of being bussed!! It's much healthier(Belleville, 2017-06-10)
#573
We need to keep a high school in the east end(Belleville, 2017-06-11)
#574
I cannot believe that you want to condense High schools into such a high traffic area as Quinte HS. The immediate result of this poor decision will be to drive a number of east end residents to the Separate Board(Belleville, 2017-06-12)
#575
I'm signing this petition because I believe that closing Moira SS is a very poor decision! There are so many elementary students in the east end of the city to feed into this school. I have talked to several parents whose children in elementary school will choose the Catholic system for their children to complete their education closer to home (Nicholson). I also think the Moira campus is superior to the Quinte SS campus. The area is quieter and not as commercialized. I'm surprised that given that the population in the east end is growing, the HPEDSB would choose to close the only secondary school in the east end!(Belleville, 2017-06-12)
#576
Im signing this because i went to moira for 4 years and it was an amazing school(Cookstown, 2017-06-13)

Moria secondary school not only was the reason I graduated but the staff and the programs offered are incredible. I have many reason why I think moria should stay open but the biggest part about moria i loved was the educational programs offered to different cultures.I also love the fact that they have a green house. So please don't close Moria secondary school.

I went to high school here . so many amazing memories have been made here. This is the only school where I ever felt like I fit in. Most of the best days of my life were here.. Skipped or not. I still absolutely loved this school and always looked forward to going everyday.(Belleville, 2017-08-12)
#585
I graduated from Moira, it offers so many unique things that other schools don't. There is a real acceptance towards all beliefs and personalities brought into this school by staff and students. It was a massive part of my growth and my education. truly a phenomenal and safe place to learn(Belleville, 2017-08-12)

Belleville needs a school in the east end; that the students attending can involve themselves in all that the high school experience has to offer.(Ancaster, 2017-10-17)
