No sick or elderly person deserves to spend their scarce time and energy fighting for needed, standard medical care, just to boost the profits of a cruel insurance company that is responding to financial incentives to deny needed medical care. The Medicare Advantage business and profit models, which reward denying medical care and punish providing it, are inhuman. In contrast, traditional Medicare plus comprehensive Medigap pay providers, rather than penalizing them financially and time-wise, for providing standard, needed medical care.Amy Rowe (Brooklyn, 2022-03-22)

I am a retired teacher (began teaching in 1970); the new health plan will negatively change the benefits that I currently receive with my GHI-CBP health plan which were promised when I retired in 2006CAROL WEINBERG (Fresh Meadows NY, 2022-03-23)

When I/we first started working for the City in 1968 we knew you would never get rich, but good health benefits and pension were guaranteed. Now, when we are old and need these benefits they are trying to break that guarantee. I think they actuaries didn't anticipate us living so long. Therefore, they can CULL the retirees population by giving us inferior health care and instituting the $15 or more, co-payments, which many retirees cannot afford at all. People who are in their 80's and 90's have survived in large part due to the good medical care. Now, the City seeks to throw them under the bus. Under our current plan, we can choose any hospital or medical provider who/which accepts MEDICARE. Under the new plan, already some providers such as Sloane Kettering and the Hospital for Special Surgery have essentially eliminated us saying that they do so only on a case by case basis after evaluation. Also, it is not known if the amount of money paid to the general doctors and specialists, labs, etc. is equal to what they are receiving now under Medicare and, therefore, they may drop out of the pool of doctors "accepting" to work with this new plan. We also don't know, let's say, how long a doctor will have to wait for his/her reimbursement or pay. Supposing it is 6 months or whatever. Would you still accept the possibly lower reimbursement? We will probably be see a declining number and quality of medical providers. This is essentially HIGHWAY ROBBERY!
Additionally, they want to use the supposed savings to pay wage increases for (union and non-union) CURRENT employees, including the directors and other big shots. What they don't realize, to quote Stuart Liebowitz, is that: "they are Retirees In Training." That means that in due course, they too will be retirees and they are biting their noses to spite their faces!
Sincerely,
Ms. Merritt Gelfand Claude

Because the city of NY must honored commitment with NYC retirees as public servants since the moment we were hired. Any changes to the agreement must include retirees at the table. In this Medicare disadvantage we as retirees union members were not consulted.Lizette Colon (NEW YORK, 2022-03-23)

It is a disgrace that anyone could even fathom removing benefits that people worked at least 25 years to earn and are counting on. If you want to change things for people coming in now, that’s different. But in -service people and retirees should not have to deal with a bait and switch on crucial healthcare. We chose a profession where we get paid significantly less than others with master’s degrees- because the benefits were a trade off. How can you do this to people in good conscience?Christine Cortes (Staten Island , 2022-03-23)

NYC RETIREES Do not need any changes in their Current Health Care plan. Medicare is fine as is.There should be no healthcare givebacks. We are too old to deal with any more health increases!
