Comments

#4601

im signing because im already dignosed with depression and anxiety and al i do to ease my illness is smoke cigarettes as we are in lockdown i do so at home and outside in my backyard, so i do not bother nobody. we pay our tax so and it will help our economy that is in distress now why dear Mr president have you announced we may buy on the 1st of May and a minister tells us otherwise we urge you to speak to ur nation about this matter we have faith in ur dissions but just to let the minister ban it just before we can buy,not givng us an heads up or let us go an buy what we need. How should we believe a word as from now do we listen to a minister or to our President .

Ashlynne simmers (uitenhage, 2020-04-30)

#4602

Because I believe smoking cigarettes has nothing to do with spreading the virus.

Christo Du Toit (Nelspruit, 2020-04-30)

#4604

I have a right to smoke if I want to. I dont need the government to tell me what to do. Stay in your lane stop abusing your power. No other country in the world is doing this ban on cigarettes.

Sunitha Ganesh (Springs, 2020-04-30)

#4605

Because I think this ban is totally ridiculous. The sale and purchase of cigarettes is no different than the sale and purchase or food. The ban on the purchase and sale of alcohol is understandable. Everyone is at risk of contracting the virus, irrespective of your underlying health issues. Your preexisting health conditions just makes you a higher risk of death. The purchase and sale of cigarettes is not a contributing factor and almost 65% of the population in South Africa are smokers. Think on that.

Not all of us share sigarettes ... What the hell

Patricia van der berg (Johannesburg, 2020-04-30)

#4617

Should this be banned from another week to 8 months this might cause some domestic violence or a very unpleasant work place inviroment!!!!!

Geraldine Joubert (Pretoria, 2020-04-30)

#4619

I have family who smoke.

Maud Flink (Wellington, 2020-04-30)

#4620

I work in the tobacco industry

Brandon Archery (Cape Town, 2020-04-30)

#4623

I feel that refraining from alcohol is one thing. Those that now cannot / may not drink should at least be able to smoke. Alcohol abuse might see an increase of patients, especially on weekends, but sigarettes simply doesn't.

Herman van Deventer (Kraaifontein, 2020-04-30)

#4625

I'm doing this because I smoke and since I'm aperantly only sending my daughter back to school in July I'll need something to do when I'm close to losing my mind.

Lisa van Rensburg (Oudtshoorn, 2020-04-30)

#4627

It's my choice whether I choose to smoke or not. Tobacco is not illegal. Who are u to decide what is essential and what is not. As for the lung issue what about the pollution you are causing by opening up the industries. Did you take lung issues into account when u decided this. Thought about how mining etc. These workplaces are extremely harmful for your lungs. Double standards.

Michelle Calitz (Witbank, 2020-04-30)

#4628

Im getting really frustrated with rhe stupid ideas that the presidency has. They do not want to give up. But continue to***** up our economy. Just stop with your nonsence and give the country to real leaders.

Nathan Ferreira (Germiston, 2020-04-30)

#4630

Its my stress reliever no other country has banned smoking why is South Africa doing it..........its crazy.

Kathy Olivier (Cape Town, 2020-04-30)

#4631

South Africa is the only country in the world to ban cigarettes! Stop being so petty, cigarettes have nothing to do with the lockdown! For years SA has been fighting to curb the illegal cigarettes trade, yet you, the government, has totally overthrown this with your smoking ban. Wake up, you have bigger problems than smokers. 11 million people smoke. Leave them be.

Victoria Parker (Dorset, 2020-04-30)

#4634

Government is trying to address issues such as alcohol and tabaco use using Covid 19 as the vehicle.

Chantel Myburgh (Pretoria, 2020-04-30)

#4672

You cannot just expect smokers to drop smoking after smoking for 30/40/50 years.
It is unfair and wrong
Nkosazana Dlamini and Bheki Cele have NO RIGHT TO FORCE PEOPLE TO STOP SMOKING JUST LIKE THAT
I am NOT a smoker but I feel it and see how people are suffering and getting very ill with these black market cigarettes
AND HARDLY ANY FOOD ON THE TABKE AS CIGARETTES ARE COSTING THEM SO MUCH. You are filling SA hospitals as they now have chest problems etc etc
Same with alcohol
You have no right to stop us from having a drink now and again.
Just because stupid drunkards get violent and unruly when they drink does not mean we ALL behave like animals. You have NO RIGHT to treat us like animals - Nkosasana Dlamini & Cele have NO RIGHT to just take away our pleasures since all the politicians have huge wine cellars in their mansions so yes they cannot complain nor bother to stand up for us as they have their stash so why bother with us

Mr Ramaphosa, please run our country - we have made you our President not Dlamini & Cele.
Please do not allow them so much power over us. We did not vote for them; we voted for you and you chose the wrong people to help you run our country. Please Mr President, we beg you REMOVE THE BAN ON CIGARETTES AND ALCOHOL

Sheila Wiedemann (Midrand, 2020-04-30)

#4675

It is my right to smoke

Tania Faul (Pretoria, 2020-04-30)

#4678

I do not harm anybody and also do not share half smoked sigarettes with anyone. Good for my stress, definitely during this time

Gerda Coetser (Knysna, 2020-04-30)

#4680

It is my constitutional right to smoke or not.

Alan Fouché (Virginia, 2020-04-30)

#4681

It is absolutely ridiculous to ban smoking when alcohol is already banned. People are stil selling but at astronomical prices. Now goverment is not seeing any of that money. Come now Mr. President you dont need to be a rockette scientist to work this one out.

Hendrik Barnard (Despatch, 2020-04-30)

I am a smoker

Dean Moller (Bloemfontein, 2020-04-30)

#4686

I'm signing because to just stop smoking is a huge health risk and helps with stress relief, anxiety and depression so if the Government really is looking out for our well being they will let us buy cigarettes just as the President announced live on national TV!

Jonell Myburgh (Centurion, 2020-04-30)

#4689

THIS BAN IS RIDICULOUS AS WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING CIGARETTES HAVE NO EFFECT ON ANYONE. ITS UNLIKE ALCOHOL, WHICH CAN CREATE AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOUR!!!

John Stewart (JOHANNESBURG, 2020-04-30)

#4691

It is unfair to be the only country to have this banned.

Sian-Kaye Brits (Johannesburg, 2020-04-30)

#4692

I am a smoker and an essential worker, you can't just ban something I've been doing for over 10years

Lauren Noah (Cape Town, 2020-04-30)

#4695

It does not make sense to not sell.

The government is creating a black market and losing money at the same time.

The sentiments they have in regards to cigarettes being shared is irrelevant, the fact that it is being obtained illegally causes sharing...

Caron Thomas (Cape Twon, 2020-04-30)

#4702

There is no valid reason for the banning of tobacco sales.

Craig Van Rooyen (Springs, 2020-04-30)

#4704

I think they infringing on our human rights, I am the only person who decides what I do with my body

Christelle Wait (Mpumalanga, 2020-04-30)

#4708

I feel that this rule is cutting into our rights as humans, for some people if not most smokers, this is seen as a means of surviving with stress.

Nathan Ederies (Cape town, 2020-04-30)

#4709

I sign because I also believe that gender based abuse is due to the stress we all going thru. And to all of the above mentioned points made.

Anna-Marie Nong (Meyerton, 2020-04-30)

My basic right is been taken from me.

Andre Swanepoel (Cape town, 2020-04-30)

#4732

I am signing because we will get covid 19 mush faster if we stop smokking. We have been smoking for 14 years and up. To suddenly removve smokes from us will put our bodies in shock thus ou immune systems will fall and we will then get Covid 19 so much easier. An once we have covid 19 our lungs wil not make it. I stopped smoking for 2 weeks. And the nicotine and slyme you chouch up is horrible and you can not breath. This rule is why we will get covid 19

Nicolette Cockcroft (Springs, 2020-04-30)

#4742

Smoking relieves stress and it is my human right to smoke if I choose to

Elmari van der Ness (Gauteng, 2020-04-30)

#4744

I am signing this as I am a smoker and it isn't easy to stop after many years and cigarettes have been legal for many years and sold to us the public, so why did they start making cigarettes if it is dangerous for our health?

Brenda Mc Lean (Gauteng, 2020-04-30)

#4745

Banning tobacco in this way is a gross violstion of human rights and has nothing to do with Covid19

Colin Windell (Southport, 2020-04-30)

#4748

I want a smoke

Stefan Swanepoel (Cape Town, 2020-04-30)

#4761

I'm signing coz i wanna smoke is that so difficult to understand***** man

Niyaaz Ross (Cape Town, 2020-04-30)

#4762

Firstly there wasn't time to go and stock up when the first lockdown was announced so yeah, I found cigarettes where I could. I was happy when it was announced that it would ge unbanned on the 1st of May so I could legally go and buy but that turned out to be fake news. Now I don't trust what anyone says.
I have cut down and would focus on quitting in a less stressful and anxious time. The option of forced cold turkey withdrawal right is not an option.
My lungs are damaged from 30 plus years of smoking. It would be years before they started to heal and I doubt if they would fully recover. I don't want to be running around in other areas looking for cigarettes but that is what is happening. I just want to be able to go to the shop and pick up a month's supply while picking up groceries so I can come home and stay safe. I know and understand thd risks

Rene Nel (Cape Town, 2020-04-30)

#4764

It's my constitutional right to smoke

Kim Callant (Alberton, 2020-04-30)

#4765

I really need to have my cigarettes. I suffer from severe anxiety and depression. Smoking calms me.

Kelly George (Durban, 2020-04-30)

#4766

I tried quitting 2 years ago and had terrible smokers flu that turned to pneumonia. This governments Healthcare system cannot afford 1 million smokers with smokers flu turning to pneumonia. 28 studies suggests that people who smoke are less susceptible to Covid 19. Does the goernment want to kill me?

Chantell Brown (Cape town, 2020-04-30)

#4768

Need cigarettes!

D Henning (Pretoria, 2020-04-30)

Belinda de Bod (Robertson, 2020-04-30)

#4796

I'm a smoker and I feel stressed out without my smokes. If u want less violence then bring back the cigarettes. What about all the car's that is letting out smoke and the factories and those who make fire outside there shacks. That is more dangerous for your lungs. I've been smoking for more than 30 years and my lungs are still fine. Now u want to kill me to go without cigarettes. BRING BACK THE CIGARETTES!!!!!!!!!!

GINA STEYN (Springs, 2020-04-30)

#4798

Have you seen an angry man? Let ne go without a cigaret.

Quinten van Rooyen (Nelspruit, 2020-04-30)
