Cash as a currency is important to keep in circulation. In the event of power outages from natural disasters, or IT issues, internet issues etc. cash would be the only other valid / commonly accepted currency for trade.Jessica Jones (Caravonica, 2023-02-25)

I am signing this petition for many reasons. I was a rate payer in Cairns but last year sold my Cairns house to live in Atherton which in my opinion felt like a closer community, where people tend to care more for each other, where networks of support have been created, starting in the immediate neighbourhood. In Atherton, neighbours mow lawns for their older neighbour citizens, help walk their dogs, feed pets and water plants while neighbours are away. The connections here are strong.I was born in Cairns, in Freshwater, many years ago. I still believe that I am a stakeholder in this beautiful city, this shire, this community.
To use covid as an excuse is not a legitimate reason to ban cash.
The council is clearly discriminating against older people who prefer to use cash and who are not familiar with apps, paying online and technology in general.
Furthermore, if this is the beginning of 'smart cities" and a one world government I do not subscribe to socialism and prefer to have my grandchildren grow up in the democratic country that I grew up in.
The move towards a cashless society smacks of socialism and control.
I am against a cashless society. I am against government authorities destroying connections, especially with the elderly. I am against destroying democracy.
Please listen to your constituents and end this move towards socialism.
We do not need smart cities.
We need caring cities.

It's so **** wrong for council to dictate and mandate and enforce this globalist agenda upon those selected them to represent US.!!!I will not attend council venues anymore.. My daughter pulled out of her ballet concert , along with several of her cohort as they wer3nt comfortable supporting such deceit and degradation of our public facilities and venues..
Shame on the dictator dog forcing this agenda

CADH IS LEGAL TENDER. Many elderly, and the young do not have card facilities, nor do they want them.Children are getting turned away at the library when they want a hot chocolate because they must have a card!!.
I do not wish all my transactions to be recorded digitally..what i spend my $ on is my business.
Councilmen and WOMEN are paid by the public thus..this is a PUBLIC VOTE

My young son loved going to the buy back shop where he could use his hard earned money (thats real cash) from doing chores or birthdays to buy things. You took that one small pleasure away from him. I can't even use my coins for parking in town anymore or use the cash from recycling my cans at the dump. No cash allowed to buy a drink or a small snack at events. We are the tax payers so we have a say on our amenities that we fund.Janelle Simkin (Bayview , 2023-02-25)

To start with, the covid pandemic has been well and truly proven to be a big thing about nothing...no worse than the flu. The danger period, if there ever was any danger, has passed & its time to get back to normal. The staff are safe so it's time to stop using this as an excuse to go cashless! Anyone with a brain knows that a cashless society is totally unacceptable & will cause the majority of everyday people no end of problems. During the "pandemic " the government got people so scared with their lies, alot of the public were terrified to touch cash, along with a number of other things. So stop continuing to bully & con us & get real. We are awake up to your agender! Everyone should have a choice - cash or card!Patricia Mau (Atherton, 2023-02-25)

As a local rate payer and resident of the Cairns Regional Council I was not made aware of this due to the fact that I don't frequently attend council facilities. Furthermore, people should have the freedom to choose how they pay for their services and goods. Think about the older generation and their old ways and how about how unreliable technology is. What happens if card facilities are down? Are you going to charge people for being late because you choose not to take cash instead?Jennifer Appleyard (Cairns, 2023-02-25)

I want the option to pay cash. I prefer to use cash. If crime is the issue then there are ‘safeguards’ I.e automatic safe in store. Money is deposited by the costumers and the machine provides the change. I want the ability to pay either cash or card. My choice.Diane Abbott (Tolga, 2023-02-25)

The transfer of physical cash in society as legal tender is vital. Many people use cash as a vital commodity of trade in their day to day lives and allows people freedom of choice. A cashless society removes this trading freedom and any attempt to remove cash from society must be resisted in its entirety for it is an attack on freedom and a move toward totalitarian control over how people do business.Sincerely Brian Venten NQ

I don't like using my card for all transactions as it has been hacked and I feel the more it is used the higher chance of it being hacked again. Using a card for $1 at the library for printing seems extreme.Anne Keys (Babinda, 2023-02-25)

As a council's strength is its closeness to the community and its ability to take account of, and to respond to, local views and ideas I am signing to support bring back cash as from a monetary perspective it keeps more money in the community (due to bank fees and charges) and disadvantaging children with access to library services is abhorrent.Rachel Karran (Atherton , 2023-02-25)
#380
I only ever deal in cash. I am on a restricted budget, so using cash helps me keep within my budget. I have an 8 year old son. How do I teach him about money if there is no cash? There is enough control of my life without the banks also taking over.Lee-Anne Brown (Mareeba, 2023-02-25)
