SAVING MANITOBA MEDICAL FIRST RESPONSE AGENCIES

Rural communities need their first responders- most of whom are local volunteers

I’m signing because I do not want to wait longer for emergency care for my family, of which one person has severe allergies.

I am signing this because I live in a rural community (Headingley which is 5 minutes outside City of Winnipeg limits) and the emergency services are provided by volunteers who are minimally paid for their efforts when required. At the time of an emergency the response time is estimated to be about 10 minutes whereas an ambulance might take 20+ minutes to arrive. The intent of EMR's is to try to treat and keep patients stable until an ambulance arrives and that is the objective. In the time of serious injury every minute counts between life and death! EMR volunteers are to be valued and respected for their contribution to the community they serve in.

I wish to support our EMT, glad we have them in our community. Ambulance service not as quick! They are an asset to our communities. They are doing such great services for respond quickly

I’m opposed to this change. This will over time eliminate small town first responder teams and affect response times.

I strongly disagree with this proposal. I do strongly believe this will most definitely put Headingley residents at risk.

So very important for smaller communities to have access to emr services, within a very few minutes. Please find out if Winnipeg will send their ambulances past the perimeter to help at emergency situations. I know they won’t. Where do you anticipate country folk will be serviced from in a timely manner? These people you are asking for 360 hours of training all have full time jobs, families and will not be able to set aside that amount of training time for a volunteer position. I personally would be so happy to have someone with 120 hours training treating me within a few minutes of an emergency call, rather than wait an extended period of time for an ambulance from who knows how many miles away!
Please consider your rural communities BEFORE you make any changes!!!!!

Brian and Sylvia Smith strongly support the current EMR's in Headingley Manitoba and their dedicated volunteer work. We oppose the CPM's proposed increase in additional training and costs.

I am a part of this service for the past 26 years. It IS essential.

Rural Manitoba deserves to keep this service
We need to respect our local volunteers and support them as they assist us
None of our volunteers can afford the time off work to complete the proposed increased training hours
They are trying to be a part of the solution to providing emergency medical care when rural ambulance services are cut and wait times are increasing

I am signing this petition because I required emergency care twice this summer (2021). I am so thankful that we have volunteer first responders in Headingley. They were here within ten minutes, way before the ambulance came and they made sure I was stable and kept me calm while waiting. Increasing the training hours needed is unnecessary, the first responders are to help and provide medical attention until the paramedics can arrive. Why fix something that isn’t broken!

I am signing this petition because it is comforting to know that in case of an emergency our first responders in Headingley will be there for us within minutes, potentially saving our lives. This past summer my wife suffered 2 heart attacks and our first responders arrived within 10 minutes of calling 911 each time, the second one in the middle of the night and long before the ambulance arrived.

I am a retired health professional & so grateful to the first responders who were there to assist my sister-in-law in a health emergency.

Having a Granddaughter who has needed the immediate care of our amazing First Responders has shown me how imperative and invaluable they are to our community!

I feel that if the number of required training hours increases this will deter new volunteers from joining. This then limits the amount of volunteers and makes this service inoperable. This can be a matter of life and death.

Amber Cook (Headingley, 2021-12-16)

#256

This will destroy the rural medical response capability.

Troy Walker (Winnipeg, 2021-12-16)

I believe that the men and women involved as volunteers are already giving more personal time and effort into keeping our community safe than it is fair to ask of anyone. If it is required that they triple that effort for training, I believe that we will have a lot less people offering to be involved and unless there is a lineup at the door of volunteers, maybe we should leave well enough alone.

Trevor Neudorf (HEADINGLEY, 2021-12-17)

#259

I am signing this because this will greatly impact how many people volunteer for the position when the hours required are onerous. This is a volunteer position.

Arlene Walker (Headingley, 2021-12-18)

We will lose the MFRs in now time if this goes through

Alain Hagenbach (Headingley, 2021-12-20)

I have called 911 many times over the 15 years that I have been running a business in the RM of Headingley. Each time, it was the local volunteer responders that attended first and rendered aid. This is an invaluable resource that we cannot afford to risk losing. Please put some research, thought, and consideration into a plan that will actually service our community.

Ray Louie (Winnipeg, 2021-12-20)

I am signing because if it was not for our rural fire department my boyfriend and father of our child would not be here with us today. It was these amazing people on our department that kept him alive and stood by his side through it all before and after his accident, and we could not be more grateful for them! Rural communities need constant emergency responders eligible to us as well!

Brittany Asselstine (Miniota, 2021-12-21)

The importance of quick ambulance response in my community, staffed with qualified, committed and trained individuals is utmost in importance. The pursuit of 360 hours for training to individuals with full-time employment and other responsibilities will end our community emergency services. Surely the two parties can come together to draft a revised training program that is better--but not at the timeline of 360 hours.

I have called upon the services of our first responders here in Headingley quite a few times. They have been kind, efficient, and provided all the medical care we needed and more. They have arrived quickly and I've witnessed them deal with multiple crises since I moved to Headingley in 2005. I fear adding this additional training will hinder their ability to recruit volunteers, therefore create difficulties with staffing. This will add wait times to their response to our calls for help. I solidly oppose this decision and have no doubt it will create problems in the well being of our community.

Lisa Baker (Headingley, 2021-12-27)

First responders are vital to the community when paramedics cannot be there in time.

Paul Yuriy (Headingley, 2021-12-31)

#276

The proposed changes will result in the death of people, and the EMR program in our local community. We deserve prompt service they provide.

Kent Cretton (Headingley, 2022-01-01)

#277

This is totally unacceptable, the loss of EMR is detrimental to our community and the health of ourselves and our neighbours.
