Ripon Barracks: Better Roads Before New Homes

Comments

#201

The state of the roads, traffic and parking in Ripon is atrocious as it is. We need new and better roads, better public transport/cycle paths before these houses are built. How about throwing in a few dental surgerys at the same time? I've been on waiting list for a dentist for 10 years.

Joelle Bingham (Ripon, 2020-09-02)

#207

I’m signing this petition because the existing roads are inadequate to take the volume of traffic that will be generated by this development. Similarly existing secondary schools in the city cannot cope with the expansion. Children currently have to travel outside the area because of the inadequate provision.

Robert Dennis (Ripon, 2020-09-02)

#208

Ripon cannot cope with the traffic as it is. I can’t imagine what gridlock will ensue with the amount of traffic this development will generate.

Samantha Campbell (Ripon, 2020-09-02)

#212

I feel that the infrastructure improvements should be looked into more carefully first.

Amelia Hastings (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#216

As the Green Party candidate for Ripon in last three elections I was shocked by the scale of this development and the lack of planning for the impact on the overall city of Ripon.

Andy Brown (Cononley, BD20 8ll, 2020-09-03)

#217

The roads in Ripon need sorting before we add more cars onto them

Gemma Plummer (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#221

The existing infrastructure cannot sustain the additional traffic created by the proposed development.

Andrew Smith (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#222

my husband lives in Ashbank Road Ripon. Clotherhome road is already overwhelmed with traffic. This needs major investment to protect residents and the two main secondary schools .

Maureen Shorter (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#224

Enough is enough.

ANDY DENNIS (Starbeck , Harrogate, 2020-09-03)

#225

I'm signing because i think you are in danger of over building, over crowding and over populating a beautifull city and surrounding areas that the infrastructure simply cannot cope, stop expanding and ruining a lovely city.

Shaun Elliott (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#228

The infrastructure of Ripon needs sorting first.
The roads to get out of Ripon are already far to congested especially at school times.
The queues to get down Coltsgate hill to get out of North street or going down hospital hill to go out towards Harrogate or over towards Boroughbridge are already tiny roads that are grid locked most mornings. The roads could not cope with more cars or traffic. It’s dangerous as people mount pavements along blossomgate. Sort the roads before the development!!

Andrea Swaine (Ripon , 2020-09-03)

#230

Ripon roads were not designed for the volume of traffic that there is now. I do not object to new houses being built but anyone with any common sense can see new roads/improvements are needed first.

Nicky Mckeown (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#232

Clotherholme Road and Bishopton Lane are already gridlocked on a morning.

There are four schools on or near the road and this will represent a considerable additional danger to school children.

The alternative plans for a sport village need to be re-examined as a more imaginative plan moving forward.

There needs to be a higher mix of truly affordable housing on the site.

James Brook.

James Brook (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#236

Ripon roads will struggle to take so much more traffic.

Beverley Barrett (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#238

The Clotherholme Road is already at full capacity at peak times and with schools picking up and topping off it is already dangerous. Several hundred more homes on top of those already under construction in Double Gates will become an intolerable traffic congestion problem and danger to life.

Michael Taylor (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#239

Kirkby Rd, Blossomgate, College Rd and Clotherholme Rd are not suitable access roads for a proposed development of this size. Additional access roads need to be constructed before construction of the site begins, or the development has to be significantly downsized or shelved.
The commissioned traffic surveys were flawed, with no consideration given to the existing 'working' width and residential/school use of the above named roads.

Sarah Williams (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#240

I am signing because daily school traffic from the south side of Ripon to the secondary and junior schools located on or near Clotherholme Road is already often at a complete standstill, is dangerous, causes significant pollution to those walking or cycling the route and there has already been a recent serious accident. The current road system using routes such as Bishopton, Hospital Hill, the junction at Low Skellgate simply cannot take any further volume that this development shall bring.

Jackie Hixon (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#242

As a resident of the RIpon area who uses the shops and facilities of Ripon several timesimes a week I can clearly see at first hand the inadequacy of the current road infrastructure to cope with the proposed number of houses and which have been highlighted by others. I also find the approach and response by Homes England to be arrogant in not considering the views and opinions of local people and specialists

David Richardson (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#244

I’m signing because I live on Westbourne Grove and the end of the road that meets with Blossomgate is not wide enough for 2 vehicles at present. Especially when the schools are open the road becomes very congested. Along with Marshall Way, Firby Lane and B6265 Somerset Row these areas struggle with excess traffic at peak times. Any extra traffic would exacerbate the situation even more. In fact we avoid going out in the car at certain times if we can help it. I am not against the development at all and feel it’s a positive growth for Ripon. We just need to ensure that the roads are improved before it can go ahead.

Joanna Wallace (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#245

Ripon will be gride locked. Why aren't our councillors pressing for a link road to avoid this.

Pauline Spensley (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#246

I believe that improving and extending the roads around the North of Ripon will be essential to allowing this housing development to succeed. Where is the "Community Benefit Levy" on the Barracks development to be spent? HBC to explain that one please?

Henry Richardson (RIPON, 2020-09-03)

#247

Serious lack of road infrastructure in Ripon in the Clotherholme area very very busy during school times and often highly dangerous. New roads need to be build to eliviate Congestion of this area before any more New houses are built.

Richard Jameson (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#249

The transport assessment highlights several areas where on-street parking narrows the road to one-way operation, and where there are areas of poor visibility or other safety hazards, but offers no mitigation for these. The proposal to reduce non-essential travel by providing facilities on site seems unrealistic to say the least. The assessment states highway improvement measures such as road widening are not possible ‘due to Ripon being a historic market town with limited road space’; surely this historic market town with limited road space should therefore not become a thoroughfare to a new development, with extra traffic adding further pressure to the already struggling road system?

Helen Moment (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#250

It is sometimes difficult to go through Ripon at rush hours. If the Ripon Barracks Development goes ahead without much thought into the huge increase in traffic. Gridlock will be a regular feature of travelling in Ripon. I suspect that the decision will be made largely by people who do not live in Ripon. Wake up Harrogate Council before it is too late.

John Kane (Leeds, 2020-09-03)

#251

These plans are absolutely crazy. You MUST first build an infrastructure first and foremost to accommodate such a plan. Our roads are gridlocked at school kick out now!! Where do you plan to park people to shop, to educate people, to let people commute? Give your heads a wobble.

Susi Jenkins (Ripon, 2020-09-03)

#255

I strongly feel that before there is an development new roads should be built. As well as being necessary for people after the development is built they are required for the construction vehicles. I also believe that further infrastructure is needed such as schools, doctors etc..

Susan Franklin (Ripon, 2020-09-04)

#260

The existing road system will not cope with in excess of 3,000 extra vehicles entering Ripon and exiting Ripon from Clotherholme Road area.

Howard Pickard (Ripon , 2020-09-04)

#261

I totally agree with the fact that better access will be required to alleviate the tremendous pressure extra vehicles will add the our already congested city.

Bronya Meadley (Ripon, 2020-09-04)

#263

this road is already far too crowded and dangerous for children and adults.

john harding (RIPON, 2020-09-04)

#264

I think that the development should not go ahead if west, east road improvements are not made to accommodate over 2500 new residents vehicles.

Peter Wellings (RIPON, 2020-09-04)

#265

Im signing because the traffic surveys and conclusions are wholly inconsistent with the reality and this development will as it stands result in unacceptable congestion in Ripon which already suffers from regular congestion.

David Belward (Ripon, 2020-09-04)

#266

Our roads our continuously bodge fixed and the pot holes damage my car. They also cause traffic to swerve to avoid them especially when full of rain water and this is dangerous.

Fiona Blaylock (Ripon, 2020-09-04)

#277

The roads in Ripon are already over flowing and traffic is heavily congested. We live on Bishopton lane and we have way too many cars up and down each day and the bridge at the bottoms.is only wide enough for one car but Cara speed down past our house and nearly end up crashing on the bridge to on coming cars!

Paul Quantrill (Ripon, 2020-09-06)

#278

The roads around the two secondary schools (especially Clotherholme Road) are a nightmare to negotiate at the start/end of each school day. Grammar School 6th formers park their cars on both sides of the road in the immediate area of the two schools leaving it particularly hazardous especially if an oncoming driver refuses to give way.

Parking in the immediate are of Lark Lane Post Office/ Co-op exacerbates the situation.

We need a far better road infrastructure before the development of the barracks site itself and the huge increase in traffic on already inadequate roads.

Mike Williams (Ripon, 2020-09-06)

#279

My objection is with the road infrastructure, on the west side of Ripon.
A potential 2500 cars heading through the town centre without plans for a relief road. Is just a recipe for disaster.

Paul Johns (Ripon , 2020-09-06)

#281

Without significant infrastructure investment BEFORE the houses are built there will be traffic chaos. Clotherholme road and Kirkby road are almost impassable at peak times already, let alone before an extra 2000 plus cars are added. This MUST be rethought.

Nicholas Gibson (Ripon, 2020-09-06)

#283

I’m signing because as it currently stands I don’t believe the infrastructure is sufficient for another 1300 houses, plus the housing being built at bishops glade.

Sarah Geddes (Ripon, 2020-09-06)

#289

The lack of appropriate infrastructure in the proposal will be a disaster for ripon and the surrounding area.

Richard Giles (Ripon, 2020-09-06)

#290

I don't object to house building but the infrastructure has got to be there to support it - i.e. suitable relief road to prevent congestion, and provision for additional businesses/services as required by the new housing community.

Tom Glen (Ripon, 2020-09-06)

#292

In order to avoid congestion and excessive pollution in particular around our schools a relief Road needs to be built or significantly reduce the number of houses proposed.

Bill Cross (Ripon, 2020-09-06)

#294

I oppose this high level of housing without appropriate relief road

Barbara Cross (Ripon, 2020-09-06)

#297

The roads through Ripon as it currently stands cannot cope with the level of traffic, especially at peak times. To add another couple of thousand cars to the mix through the proposed development - without adding any extra infrastructure - is madness.

Hannah James (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#300

I believe that we will have traffic chaos in the area and the city centre.

Roger LE Duc-Barnett (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#301

We live at Aislabie Close, on Clotherholme Road and will be immediately affected by extra traffic.

Carol Mayer (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#304

I'm signing because I have already seen the problems we have in Clotherholme Road...Kirkby Road...College Road with parked cars and queuing cars causing real difficulty. Putting lights at the Westgate Blossomgate junction which is the easiest place to cross the road without lights, would lead to a backed up queue that would mean cars couldn't go right down past the hospital. Do not for one minute believe that people will walk to town

Linda Whitehouse (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#309

More thought is required. Ripon doesn’t have the infrastructure to be able to cope with so many new houses.
Also - the playing fields should be protected. Never has our outside space and access to sports been more important than now

Kate Bradshaw (Harrogate, 2020-09-07)

#310

Poorly thought out concept, insufficient infrastructure and roads nowhere near capable of carrying extra traffic if houses built.

John Reid (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#316

I feel very strongly that it is the wrong decision and will cause unprecedented congestion.

Marian Wooding (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#317

Infrastructure needs to be in place better roads, doctors and dentists, an additional secondary school and public transport

Malcolm Littler (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#318

I’m signing because of my concerns relating to additional traffic on college road which will result in significant congestion and safety incidents. A considered bypass to the new development is critical to ensure the additional traffic is effectively and safely managed.

Brian Williams (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#322

I’m signing because Ripon roads struggle to cope with the existing traffic...and sometimes the roads are totally gridlocked. To think of building more houses without improvements to the road system is ridiculous!

Elaine McIntosh (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#324

I work on the park street and the road wont cope with any more traffic, its horrific now

Caroline Bentham (Ripin, 2020-09-07)

#325

We do not have the infrastructure to support that number of houses. Ripon roads are already a mess with the amount of traffic now. If this were to go ahead a new link road would be needed and more money given to expand schools in the area that are already oversubscribed.

Kathy Lewis (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#326

Because development of Ripon must be fully planned and balanced.

Nick Thompson (Ripon, 2020-09-07)

#328

I live in the area and am worried about the extra traffic on already busy and narrow roads.

Jenny Turner (Ripon, 2020-09-08)

#330

Agree better safer roads now with the contractor before giving planning permission. Save lives now .

Richard Caven (Harrogate , 2020-09-08)

#331

I feel it is important to have sufficient infrastructure in place before such a significant development is built. The local roads are already congested at busy times, it is often not possible for cars to drive on both sides of the road due to street parking. This will not make traffic flow well if there are another 1000 cars on the road

Nicola Taylor (Ripon , 2020-09-08)

#332

The roads around this proposed area are narrow and in disrepair. The roads infrastructure cannot cope with further cars congesting our roads.

Diane Wade (Ripon, 2020-09-08)

#333

Agree that traffic conditions need to be improved at current levels let alone with more houses. Only access to that side of ripon is via the town centre only.

Andy Chalmers (Ripon, 2020-09-08)

#336

From this side of Ripon, or the Spa side, there are only two routes available to reach Ripon Centre, or the ByPass if travelling to York or Middleborough directions or North or South on the A1. If one of these routes is restricted then it places a huge burden on the other route. If as has been the case this last week both routes are restricted then most journeys times are increased by at least 20 minutes even without School traffic.
School traffic at peak times has a similar effect even without roadworks, and add in to that the extra vehicle movements of 700/800 predicted, then we will have an impossible situation. I am fairly certain that would not allow for the home delivery drivers who are now part of the national picture. I was a private hire driver in Ripon several years ago, and thus I believe I am well qualified to say that the minor improvements to three junctions in Ripon will not prevent big queues outbound and inbound not only at peak times but all day. An extra route I believe is essential to prevent chaos.

Robert Scott (Ripon, 2020-09-08)

#337

My family live on Clotherholme road and this will affect them on a number of levels, ranging from their and their family's safety to the potential value of their property

Roger Elliott (Harrogate, 2020-09-08)

#338

I am a local resident and cannot believe that the new houses being proposed are not having some appropriate infrastructure built to accommodate them. The barracks side of Ripon is possible the hardest to access and most congested residential area of Ripon and its unbelievable to think the council believe the roads in the area can take more traffic as is!

Johnathan Elliott (Ripon, 2020-09-08)

#339

There the infrastructure at present is far from enough Especially roads .

Margaret Smith (Ripon, 2020-09-08)

#343

Roads not up to more traffic

Andrea Scott (Ripon, 2020-09-08)

#346

I live on College Road and believe the roads cannot sustain further traffic

Elizabeth Cookson (Ripon, 2020-09-09)

#348

We have to take local infrastructure seriously, HBC has to uphold their green policies and their stance on reducing pollution or they will fail on this without ensuring infrastructure is agreed and in place before housing estates are completed.

Hannah Corlett (Ripon, 2020-09-09)

#350

Bishopton has two blind corners, a very narrow pavement and there have been accidents on these corners. The road is narrow and it is already used as a rat run. An entrance to Outward Academy is on it and inevitable increased traffic will put the children at risk.

Janina Harrison (Ripon, 2020-09-09)

#353

I live on clotherholme road and we already have enough traffic

Daniel Smith (Ripon, 2020-09-10)

#355

I’m a resident

david hill (Ripon, 2020-09-10)

#356

I’m signing because I live on Clotherholme road & my child goes to Ripon Grammer school & the traffic is already at its limit with the new houses being built at Double gates & the 2 secondary schools

Paul Ashby (Ripon , 2020-09-11)

#357

I`m signing this petition because I don`t thing the application is for the greater good of Ripon. It doesn`t address the wider needs of the city regarding sport, leisure, schooling and infrastructure.

Stuart Wakefield (Ripon, 2020-09-11)

#359

I disagree with proposition

Peter Harrison (Ripon, 2020-09-11)

#367

Roads in Ripon are some of the worst I have seen & need updating before we are overwhelmed by more taffic.

Chris Jones (ripon, 2020-09-11)

#370

I am signing this petition because I think this development will have a negative impact on the city in relation to traffic flow - resulting in congestion. The numerous planned developments across the town will also result in extra drainage and pressure on the rivers.

Eileen Nicol (Ripon, 2020-09-11)

#371

Exact same issue in Bishop Monkton village with a new development that adds almost a third of houses in a village of under 400 homes with no consideration for infrastructure - roads, schools, sewers, drains. Bishop Monkton village kids typically go to Secondary schools in Ripon.

Raj Selvarajan (Bishop Monkton, 2020-09-12)

#374

We live in Ripon and there is a need for good roads as it’s a struggle to get around in town, both for walkers or people in their cars!

Keerthi Kumar (Ripon , 2020-09-12)

#376

The reason for the petition is well-founded as the road infrastructure in Ripon is inadequate to cope with large scale development as is proposed.

Graham Hermon (RIPON, 2020-09-12)

#378

The roads are already chaotic and becoming more and more with the present development at Bishops Glade.
With the proposed building at Ripon Barracks the position will be out of control unless the infrastructure is improved to cope with the extra people and vehicles.

john bell (RIPON, 2020-09-12)

#382

our roads cannot cope with traffic now let alone with more houses and therefore more cars

Susan Tonks (BISHOPTON, Ripon, 2020-09-12)

#383

It is already a struggle to get around Ripon due to huge amounts of traffic. More houses will lead to complete deadlock at certain times of the day. Clotherholme Road goes past two main schools and the increased traffic will be dangerous. Investment needs putting into Ripons roads before any more houses are built.

Jenny Bridger (Ripon, 2020-09-12)

#384

This just isn’t going to be at all possible without altering the roads. Congestion is ridiculous as it is!

Laura Cardin (Ripon, 2020-09-12)

#388

The current road system will not support the additional traffic and will be a serious danger to the pupils at the two schools on clotherholme road.

David Franklin (Ripon, 2020-09-12)

#391

The roads can barely cope now at peak times and stand no chance without improvement once the barracks site is develped

Ged Pybus (Ripon, 2020-09-12)

#394

I like Ripon

Simon Thompson (Norwich, 2020-09-12)

#395

The planned development will add circa 2000+ additional cars on to the already congested routes out of Ripon. Particularly the area around the old swimming baths.

John Aldington (Ripon, 2020-09-12)

#396

the road infrastructure of Ripon is woefully inadequate to support any increase in traffic. This development will cause gridlock and make it very difficult for residents to get in and out of this large part of Ripon.

Joanne Wallace (Ripon, 2020-09-13)

#398

There is no point adding more housing, but not ways for these people to get their cars/bikes in and out. Traffic will be horrendous!!
Definitely definitely needs a road straight to the main road. Can’t rely on driving past lots of other houses or making roads with schools on one of the busiest roads.

Emily Turner (Ripon, 2020-09-13)
