I fully support this petition which was as a result as of an incident recently regarding a Chinese teenager who was attacked by a dangerous weapon on a bus, where there was only an old man coming forward and stopped this scary attack, the bus driver was present and witnessed the entire event, however, did nothing about it.The violence absolutely could not be tolerated, and was in no way a reflection of the law and justice system the national government is trying to maintain. This is against the government's objective to reduce crime rate and reassure safety nationwide.

Everyone should try to avoid the dangerous situation around people, and think about the way to protect self and others, in the case just the old man care about the child, what the driver and passengers should do? How NZ law can protect residents and what should do to improve ?Betty Chan (Auckland, 2024-07-03)

I'm signing this because what happened to this boy was so wrong. The wrong unsafe environment,
The wrong bus Staff rules (cold and irresponsible rules )
The wrong security Social System.
I understand the bus driver has a family and need to go home safe. But passengera paid their fair to the bus company and bus company and the driver should try to protect their Passengers while trying to protect themselves. They got a job to do, they are not staying at home.
The bus company charges the fare so high for what?
Unfortunately, not just on the bus, but the whole society is not a safe place to live..
This bus news is really about the whole society.
Hope something are done to get our safe New Zealand back.

Feel terribly upset and disappointed at this incident! My son is of the similar age. It breaks my heart at imagining my son in the victim’s shoes! People have the right (not the rationale) to be indifferent but our laws shouldn’t!Yang Guo (Auckland, 2024-07-03)

This terrorist attack really shocked me. As a student of the same age as Jason and a passenger on the bus every day, I think it is necessary to make laws to protect people's safety.Nicole Zhong (Auckland, 2024-07-03)

There definitely should be repercussions for this type of unacceptable behaviour for both the crazy woman and the bus driver. The lack of sympathy from the bus driver is appalling and I hope gets what he deserves. The same can be said for the attacker and I hope she is held accountable for this disgusting act and not let off because she claims to a psychotic break or similar likes. There is no excuse that she should be able to give that makes it ok for what she did to you.Currently, I have very little faith in both our justice system and organisations like Auckland Transport, but I hope with your case that there will be the proper punishments for people like your attacker and the driver that New Zealand often fails to deliver.
I hope you have a speedy recovery and regain the ability to feel secure in what should be a very safe environment again.

I don’t feel safe during taking public transport either. There have been a few times that I have come across weird people while I was taking the train from CBD to Otahuhu during quiet hours. As a female, I feel deeply worried about those stuff and it has been affecting me- pushed me to change my job to somewhere that doesn’t require to take public transport. And also on the buses, I have faced strange people there too. It is worrying me how the community has been changed since after Covid.Mirai Wong (Auckland, 2024-07-03)
