For all the hard work that was put into the court house by the scouts and friends to make a scout den for all of the children not only in tullow but the surrounding areas as well.Margaret Morris (Carlow, 2023-04-12)

I believe the Tullow scouts have been treated very poorly by the council in this matter. There was a lot of work put into the courthouse by the group itself and many supporters. The eviction was sudden and permanent. Now it appears that the building will be repaired but the scouts are not welcome back.Eric Geaney (Rathvilly, 2023-04-12)

The 5th Tullow scout troop have spent large amounts of money to bring their den up to the requirements set out by the council who handed over a not fit for purpose building at the time. Now the council are willing to put funds into this building ( which they should have done in the beginning) Give it back, the scouts showed good will. Now it's up to the council to play their part. Give the building back to a strong community group.Paddy Fleming (Carlow, 2023-04-12)

I believe scouts is an invaluable recourse in the greater Tullow area. I have volunteered in Tullow for.many years and would like to see it continue for all children.Jennifer Lynam (Enniscorthy, 2023-04-12)

I was a member of Tullow Scouts for 10 years, from our first home in the parish centre to the move to the courthouse. I seen all the hard work members done, and the money fundraised to put into the courthouse. For it all to go to waste and be pulled from under the group. Tullow Scouts is an invaluable resource for children and teenagers in the Tullow area, all 3 of my sons where members growing up. They deserve and need their own permanent home.Aisling Maher (Rathvilly, 2023-04-12)

The scouts deserve to be in their den! The scouts teach life skills to younger people builds confidence and keeps them off the streets and all done voluntary by people who could be sitting at home! The least the community can do is provide them with a place to carry out the great work they doHelena Byrne Kiernan (Tullow, 2023-04-12)

My children were members and it was well organised with great leaders.Jim Healy (Tullow, 2023-04-12)

The Scouts are a community based youth group who engage with young people of all ages teaching and mentoring and encourage social interaction and team building skills and it would be a travesty for Scout Group not to have a Den to continue and grow this wonderful voluntary organisationHelen Tomkins (Tullow, 2023-04-12)

These kids deserve to have the Den back as the scouts have been there for 11 years and have put so much work into this building.Leeanne Lawler (Tullow, 2023-04-12)

I have been a member of 5th Carlow Tullow scouts for a number of years. This hall is the foundation of memories, and to craft such memories for future members of our group, we must have a stable and flexible den to do so. Without this asset, the scout group will be at an incredible disadvantage and kids will be discouraged to use their independence, initiative, and team working skills. The community and respect shown within the scouting world is such a necessity to raise the next leaders of our world and I strongly believe that the lack of support is diminishing of the work put in by the scouting community to keep the scouting energy high.Hannah Lynam Pedoe (Enniscorthy, 2023-04-12)
#48
As a group we spent approximately €20,000 renovating the courthouse with no help from the council. The kids, parents, friends and keaders spent hundreds of hours workings on this building to get it ring for the kids. We asked the council multiple times to help us fix the leaking roof which they have dreamed unsafe now. Why was this all done? So the council could throw us out with ní notice at all. You can see now the true reasons they got rid of us.Tony Maher (Tullow, 2023-04-12)

It is only fair the Scouts get their den back. They are an invaluable resource in the Community and disgraceful that they are being treated like this. Do the right thing and let them back to their den.Ciara Ruschitzko (Dublin, 2023-04-12)

Carlow 5th Tullow Scouts have been treated terribly by Carlow co Council. They were evicted from the Courthouse with little notice and no help given to them to secure new premises so that they could keep the group going for the benefit of all the kids who attend. They should be reimbursed for the money & hardwork put into the courthouse by them or allowed to return when the improvement ls have been done!
Louise Kelly (Rathvilly, 2023-04-12)

I’m singing this because the scout group is an integral part of the community and were told some untruths to be remove from their former den, the tullow court house after sinking more like Han 20k of hard earned money not to mention the free man hours the member gave up getting this building up to scratchSimon Ronan (Tullow, 2023-04-12)

As a volunteer since 2014 with the group I know how hard my fellow leaders have worked within the group to get the building up to scratch, how parents and friends sacrificed time to fundraise for us to maintain the Den. Please reconsider your decision!Annie Ryan (Tullow, 2023-04-12)
#73
I am signing this because the council waste money year in year out on needless things and leave the likes of the scouts to fend for themselves. The Tullow courthouse when repaired should be given back to the scouts not to move the library just because they want bigger offices pace in a building that was built in the wrong place.William Roche (Tullow, 2023-04-12)

The scouts were a major part of both my girls childhood where they have made friends and gained valuable life long skills from all the volunteers over the years, most still there with the Carlow/Tullow 5th scouts. I seen first hand the work that was put into the courthouse by the group and alot done by volunteers too I think this recent move by the council is just one of pure greed, they should be encouraging groups like the scouts in small towns rather than trying to finish them off, I hope this campaign works and well done again to the tullow scout group volunteers and members.Michelle Doyle (Tullow, 2023-04-13)

I'm sick of good people being taken advantage of by those who claim to represent them and then do exactly the opposite. If the County Councillors had to go in front of the Scouts and explain their motives and justify their decisions, I'm pretty sure they would find the process intimidating and rightly so. They conveniently forget who elects them and all these Scouts are future voters. They won't forget.Christopher Donovan (Dublin 11, 2023-04-13)
#127
Shame on the council, taking the use of the building away from the scouts. It is more than just a building, especially to the children and adults who are part of it.Denise Laffan (Dublin, 2023-04-13)

Disgraceful behaviour from the council it's much more difficult for community groups like scouts to get funding in this country compared with sports clubs. Using a trick like this to oust the scouts in hopes of renting it out at a profit is horrendous in this age where people are constantly complaining that kids do things outdoors anymore.Brendan O'Keeffe (Cork, 2023-04-13)

Scouting takes alot of time and resources to organise. A great deal of space needed to store equipment such as tents, cookers, cooking utensils, canoes, kayaks etc. It is not feasible to rent an hour in the community centre and let some store these in volunteers private residences. Scouts need a permanent home to hold weekly meetings and store equipment if the group is to run properly. It is already difficult enough to run a scout group and retain volunteers without adding this headache to the volunteers. The group already raised enough money to pay for rewiring, it seems really unfair to kick them out when they needed help fixing the roofRoisin Rizza (Athlone, 2023-04-13)

I am a Scouter in Cork who is lucky enough to own their own den. Maintenance of our Den takes a huge hunk out of our resources each year. Its not fair to expect a Group to pay for the up keep of a premises that will never be theirs. We are volunteers. I am concerned that our Government uses voluntary organisations to fill in gaps in the social network they are not willing to repair.June Ward (Cork, 2023-04-13)
