I want to stop the sale of this forest habitat! it's a very important and sensitive area, and must be protected.

The City of Burnaby promised a complete environmental assessment of this area before any development. Please refer to Page 7 of their official plan.

I'm signing because my son and I walk in Byrne Creek Ravine every Sunday morning - it's our church, nature is our religion, and we truly value the beauty of this gem of park land nestled in the middle of the city. PLEASE don't sell off this valuable asset of Mother Nature's land!!

(New Westminster, 2017-10-11)

I live in this area and the forest around my neighbourhood makes this place very special. Neighbours and I often celebrate sightings of the Barred Owl family that calls this forest home. Other wildlife like various songbird, coyotes, raccoons, and squirrels also need this forest to survive. We need to keep this forest intact not only for the wildlife but also for the health and well-being of everyone in Burnaby and the greater Metro Vancouver region who enjoys Byrne Creek Park. This is a forest wonderland of beautiful trees and wildlife - it is irreplaceable. Once it is gone, it is gone forever. Protect it today.

Burnaby claims to be protecting parks and environmentally sensitive areas while putting a piece of park land up for sale . This area is vital to wildlife and native species . The city recently had a ceremonial tree planting in central park but they will gladly try and sell off forested areas in other areas. Stop this hypocritical approach to zoning and land management.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-11)

#6

I'm signing because this is important natural land and habitat for many species of animals. It's important to have green areas in the city and this piece of land is especially important to the residents of South slope. We walk, enjoy nature, and share knowledge with our children here. The salmon stream and forest habitat must be protected.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-11)

#7

We need to leave our green space alone. We have so much wildlife including birds, raccoons, skunks, owls, and coyotes in this beautiful area and they need a home. Please no more development.

Keeping what little wilderness we have left is an important aspect of governance. Not only for the health of our watershed and local ecology, but for the residents who enjoy living in such close proximity to this forest. For many years Vancouver has been regarded as one of the most beautiful places to live, and this generally refers to Metro Vancouver. Burnaby is a part of Metro Vancouver and quite easily argued the most significant suburb north of the Fraser. Having a municipality of significance show disregard for preserving what little forest we have left in our urban environment is extremly discouraging for a number of reasons. It shows a prefence for one lump sum paid up front instead of long term income generated by tourism and the eventual role the forests will play in driving up local housing costs and rent, of which the City of Burnaby will profit from both. It shows a disconnect from the majority of British Columbians, let alone the citizens of Burnaby or Metro Vancouver Area, who place a great deal of value on our wildlife and forests.

If nothing else, do you want your grand children to live in a city without forests? The more of this watershed and maturing forest that is sold for development, the less of a legacy we have to pass onto our grandchildren.

I'm signing because you cant get it back once you have developed it.

(North Vancouver, 2017-10-12)

These forests are a big part of the reason Burnaby remains a liveable city. And a decent place to raise children.

I love that Neighbourhood! I wish we could still live there!!! It's pretty as it is !! People need fresh air, place to walk and enjoy nature!! Do not destroy all the forest! Burnaby crowdy enough already!!

(Maple Ridge, 2017-10-13)

Live in the area and love this place.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-13)

This sale is offensive. I thought Burnaby was pro parks and now this. What will they sell off next.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-13)

#51

Keep this habitat!

(Burnaby, 2017-10-13)

It is an eco sensitive area and need to be preserved. Quit taking away all our green spaces. We walk in these woods and view the beautiful wildlife as we live in the area.

Environmental stewardship of my neighbourhood.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-13)

#73

I trust my city to do its due diligence and make sure this move would be environmentally sound in the long run.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-13)

#74

It takes political courage to speak for the environment. Please save this land from development. The birds and animals need it.

(North Vancouver, 2017-10-13)

#75

Biodiveristy is shrinking rapidly in Burnaby while development is running rampant. Areas such as these are our collective lungs, with huge physical and psychological benefits that concrete can't replicate. The city has a huge surplus, and has no need to sell this property. The development pressures on the neighbourhood are resulting in regular massive traffic jams on area roads and huge lineups at the Edmonds Skytrain station during commuting hours.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-13)

#76

I feel that we need to save as much green space in South Burnaby as possible .

(Burnaby, 2017-10-13)

#88

Urban areas benefit greatly from a mix of natural suroundings. Too much development in one area destroys native species and wildlife habitat. Due diligence has not been done in this regard.

(Vancoiver, 2017-10-14)

I want to stop the sale of this forest habitat! it's a very important and sensitive area, and must be protected.
It it home for many beautiful animals and birds included owls and is also gorgeous place for a walk , inyoing a green nature in the middle of the city.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-14)

#95

I walk this area with my dog and don’t want it to be developed due to wildlife

(New Westminster, 2017-10-15)

#98

This area needs to remain a forest, and should become designated as permanent park land. Enough of Burnaby has been developed, and this city is one of the few lower mainland cities that operates with a surplus of cash, so this sale is really a no win for anybody but the greedy developers.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-15)

#99

I love everything about this park, and it should be maintained as a park.

(port moody, 2017-10-15)

#100

Grew up in Burnaby, far too much development raping the land upsetting flora and fauna

(Richmond , 2017-10-15)

#102

We need to keep this part of the park. It is more important than building another hi-rise.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-15)

#105

I want to area to stay as it is and not be developed.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-15)

#108

Im signing because I want to preserve the look of my hometown and the environmental impact that will be detrimental to those living south of Southridge Drive.

And I probably can't afford those new houses anyway...

(New Westminster, 2017-10-15)

#112

This area hosts a large amount of wildlife and is a slice of nature in the city that should be protected. There should not be any development without a proper environmental assessment.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-15)

#116

I want to stop the sale of this beautiful forest. My daughter lives in this area and it is a beautiful place to visit.

This forest is part of the Byrne Creek park. It is heart wrenching to see it being gutted into pieces for profit. It is disappointing to see that the city of Burnaby voted for such non-sense: it is outrageous to see that they could not care the least of the impact this will have on the wildlife and ecosystem - we have owls who are nesting in these woods, coyotes for whom the wood is their habitat, squirrels and so many species of birds - not to mention the huge damaging effects it will have on the Byrne Creek itself and the salmon run. And on top of that, I walk my dog in those woods, just as so many others do daily. I hope whoever approved this ridiculous sale reconsiders as we, the residents of the area do not agree with such horrible decision. I always believed the city of Burnaby puts climate and the Burnaby residents first, and it is disgusting to see the council approving a deforestation of such magnitude in a consecrated natural park. The environment needs more trees not another cheap and kitsch looking development. SHAME!

(burnaby, 2017-10-16)

#127

For the sake of the habitat of Barred Owls, Red Squirrels, Cooper's Hawks, denning Coyote families and other species and for the sake of the Red Wood Cedar trees, that prevent mudslides and water runoff, please keep Byrne Creek Forest East safe and secure from development, until an Environmental Impact Study is completed.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-16)

#128

I’m signing this petition because I think we need forest too. I know is important to build housing but is the forest is needed too.

(Burnaby , 2017-10-16)

#129

I live here and this is a nature habitat green belt and no environmental study has been conducted

(Burnaby , 2017-10-16)

#131

It's important to protect this green space.

#136

This is an essential part of the community

(Burnaby, 2017-10-16)

#140

Friends and myself enjoy walking through that area and know that a lot of critters will have their habitat destroyed if developed.

(New Westminster , 2017-10-17)

#144

It's wrong to cut this important ecological Forest

(Burnaby, 2017-10-18)

#146

It’s full of animals we cannot see them all get driven out and die.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-18)

#148

I have witnessed the sheer lack of respect for trees/plants and the wildlife (beavers, blue herons, coyotes to name a few). I work along the Byrne Creek pathway right by the golf course, the last 2 years the city has been ripping it all away to create more warehouses. Just recently came along to cut down all the trees because “they were too much work to maintain”
This has got to stop! We need our forests!
I was very disappointed to see the sign announcing it was up for sale for development purposes..

(New Westminster, 2017-10-18)

#149

We live in the neighborhood and has been enjoying Byrne woods park in the last 13 years.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-18)

#152

I'm signing because I lived 9 years in that area, and it's terrible that in the name of business the city has decided to destroy the forest. The area has already suffered when Green Complex was built, and there is no need to go through that again. Why don't they build on the property adjacent to Ledgestone II?? If the purpose is to create more living space there's still some land there. DON'T DESTROY THE FOREST!!

(New Westminster, 2017-10-18)

#156

It’s amazing nature park and it has be be saved!

(Burnaby , 2017-10-18)

#160

Please don't take our green away.

(Burnaby , 2017-10-18)

#166

These woods are near my home. I love being in a wooded area.
We are still seeing land erosion from the previous forest destruction many years ago.
Last time there was a large patch of woods demolished we had to deal with homeless coyotes getting sick and hungry and attacking our pets. There is an elementary school nearby, I don't want to risk my children too!

(Burnaby, 2017-10-18)

#169

Keep the forest

(Burnaby , 2017-10-18)

#175

I want to save the forest for a place for the animals to have home.
I want to save the forest so we can save the precious trees that have been planted.

(Burnaby , 2017-10-19)

#178

Keep the forest there. Do not destroy it.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-19)

#179

I moved into this area because of the beautiful surrounding forest. It would be deeply disappointing if this woodland turns into housing development, and seriously disturbing if this happens without community discussion and an Environmental Assessment study.

(Burnaby, 2017-10-19)

#180

Our forests our disappearing faster than we can imagine and sale of this land for redevelopment would destroy the habitat for extensive wildlife in the area!! Save our forests!!!

(Burnaby, 2017-10-20)

#185

I believe we need to protect the forests for our wildlife. Find other areas to build housing than existing forests

(Abbotsford , 2017-10-20)

#187

I jog in green timbers forest often. I'd be devastated if part of it was cut down for housing.

(Surrey, 2017-10-20)

#188

Leave some for the birds and the bees, please!

(New Westminster, 2017-10-20)

#189

Green space is too valuable

(Burnaby, 2017-10-20)

#196

Upzone SFH, don't deforest. Urban forest will become increasingly valuable and treasured as the city densifies. In 50 or 100 or 200 years, when the area is built up anyways, no one is going be thankful that more forest was cleared instead of having slightly denser/taller surrounding buildings.

(Richmond, 2017-10-20)

#198

It is critical that we make long-term planning decisions that will maintain the habitability of our place on the planet. Rather than making short-term decisions for the cash.
