SAVE HEIDI'S LIFE

Petition:  By signing this petition, I am asking the village of Hawthorn Woods, IL Board of Trustees to stop spending our tax money to force the killing of the beagle mix dog, Heidi, and make the reasonable and humane decision to allow the dog to live the rest of her natural life outside of the village.

Background:  

During the past 24 months, the Hawthorn Woods mayor and board of trustees have authorized over $30,000 of citizens' tax dollars in a two-year fight against this dog’s life. The village Board has an aggressive and hostile downtown Chicago attorney advising them to continue the battle to execute our dog, Heidi— because continuing the fight will continue his cash flow, and defeating us would satisfy his personal vendetta. 

We have offered a settlement to the Board that will save Heidi’s life, but would end our ownership of her and keep her out of the village, which is what the village officials wanted since the beginning.  But upon the attorney’s advice, the Board has rejected our offer and continues to fight us in court for the execution of our sweet little dog. 

A few times in the past, when Heidi felt cornered or threatened by a strange person coming onto her property, she nipped them once out of fear, then immediately retreated.  Heidi has since received training and her social improvement and sweet nature have been documented by dog behavior professionals.  We have shown this evidence to the village board along with our offer to relinquish ownership to a rescue organization who will find her an adoptive, responsible new owner outside of Hawthorn Woods. However, the attorney, village board and police chief, none of whom have ever met the dog, have ignored the professionals and have rejected our offer. The mayor and Board are treating this 28 pound beagle mix, who has been confined to a kennel for the past 24 months, like a murderous attack dog and claim they have a right to kill her.

We just want to save our little dog who does not deserve to die.  If you want the village to stop squandering your tax dollars to force the killing of a 28 pound beagle, and/or you care about the life of a helpless animal who is caught in the middle of a horrible human legal dispute, please sign our petition.
