Permanent operating license for the Roll FM radio channel
Roll FM is applying for a permanent radiolicense – your help is needed too!
With the termination of Yle Puhe, a license for one local FM frequency is available in Helsinki. Roll FM has decided to participate in the application process organized by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom, which would enable the channel loved by music lovers to operate year-round on radio waves.
"Roll FM has operated with temporary licenses for about nine years and we have been operating year-round as an online radio for about a year now. A permanent license would be a natural step in Roll's development arc," says the channel's founder and editor-in-chief Ari Rajala.
Getting permission is not a given, but it requires a lot of work, additional funding and partners. In order to speed up the application process and increase awareness of the channel, Roll FM starts a campaign by collecting names from fans of the channel to a website address in favor of a permanent permit. Patrons of the campaign are cultural icons M.A. Numminen and Mato Valtonen.
Growing operations also requires greater financial resources, so a patronage campaign is about to start to support the channel.
After Yleisradio gave up special programs on roots music, for example, the need for a radio channel focused on organic rock music like Roll FM clearly exists.
"Our channel has a lot of friends both in the capital region and outside of it, and there are constant requests for permanent radio operations. I hope that the friends of the channel will take seriously this joint effort for rolling music. The application period ends at the end of July, so now we have less than a month to show our strength", Rajala appeals.
