We can tell you what is the sacnificance of Mr NOEL WILLIAMS...
Mr Noel Williams has made a huge contribution to the lives of many Atlantis residents during the 1980 to 1996 EVICTIONS by the apartheid government. As chairperson of the Atlantis Residents Association (ARA), Mr Williams was the forerunner to end of the house evictions. It was not an easy task those days, since all the apartheid laws were against them back then. He ended up in jail more than once.
Our people were evicted in a vicious way. Can you imagine getting a call while you are at work to inform you that:
1. Your furniture have been put out on the street.
2. That all your precious belongings are wet from the rain.
3. That you won`t have a place to sleep when you go home tonight.
These evictions were traumatic for the families, but especially for their children.
Mr Noel Williams and the ARA had tackled the government head-on dispite the fact that he might be arrested. As a family man himself, he considered it his duty to defend the vulnerable and defensless.

NOEL WILLIAMS was a member the UDF as well as the ANC for many years. He also occupied one of the leading positions in the ANC as well as in government.
However, he became a thorn in the flesh of many ANC leaders when he spoke out against the corruption that plaque the organization. What upset Mr Williams the most, was the fact that "coloured people" were not considered worthy for high positions.
When he was reprimanded and than expelled, he comment as follows:
"Some people made a mockery of the organization. Id rather be expelled than be part of all of the unfairness"
