Petition on the Burnt-Down House: A Call for Immediate Action

We, the residents of Somerset West, are deeply concerned about the burnt-down house that is the property of the City of Cape Town. This derelict property is not only an eyesore but also a severe safety hazard and a significant security risk. The house was burned down by criminals and vagrants, and despite repeated requests for action, the City has provided no support or resolution to this problem.

The City of Cape Town has been unacceptably slow in addressing this issue, leaving our community vulnerable and frustrated. Having lived in this area for over 40 years, I can confidently say that the situation has never been this dire. This speaks volumes about the current state of governance and service delivery in our area.

We, as taxpayers, demand a clear and prompt response from the City of Cape Town regarding the solution and the timeframe for addressing this issue. We pay for services that are not being adequately delivered, and it is time for the City to fulfill its obligations to the residents.

We are open to negotiation and implore the City of Cape Town to make a genuine effort to meet with our community and address all related issues that have been neglected for far too long. Previous meetings with the City have been poorly organized and have led nowhere. It is for this reason that we, as a community, are now signing petitions for each and every grievance we have with the City of Cape Town regarding service delivery and the quality of those services.

In conclusion, this petition is to demand the immediate removal of the burnt-down house by the railway, along with a clear outline of the steps that will be taken and a timeline provided to us, the taxpayers and residents of the area. As a side note, this is not the only derelict house in Somerset West that the City is neglecting, and these neglected properties continue to cause significant problems for the residents of Somerset West.

If you agree with the above, please sign this petition. Together, we can make the changes necessary to improve our community and hold the City of Cape Town accountable. We are the customers, and they are public servants. It’s time they remember that.
