Dear Mr. Secretary-General,

The dimensions of the recent tragic events in Mecca and the number of causalities requires your immediate attention and the intervention of the United Nations. The negative impact of this repeated calamity touches the lives of hundreds of millions of Muslims throughout the world and every member state of the United Nations.

Regardless of the immediate cause, it is the moral obligation of the government of Saudi Arabia to apologize to the families of those who lost their lives or were injured and to compensate them for these loses. Furthermore, it is their moral obligation to accept full responsibility for this tragedy and to report to all nations on the causes of the incident and on their details of how they are going to prevent similar disasters from happening in the future.

We fear that the reluctance and hesitation of Saudi authorities to do their duty so far has the potential to add new fuel to the already burning Middle East.

We ask you to use the positive influence of your office to immediately establish an unbiased independent fact-finding committee to thoroughly investigate this incident and to require the Saudi government to fulfill their obligations.

Yours sincerely,
