Coach Wesley “Goose” Johnson Memorial Field-Hanlon Park

My father Wesley, affectionately known as Goose/ Coach Wes was responsible for creating the Hanlon Park Football program in 1982. As a graduate of Morgan State University, a member of Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and a pillar of the community for countless youth he continued to build a legacy in  pop warner and high school communities. In Pikesville- by founding the wildcats football team at Pikesville High School. His roots are in the mondawmin community, our family history began on Clifton Ave. His untimely death in 2011 was not only unexpected but tragic. It left a hole in the community and our hearts. As his daughter, I have long wanted to create a place to remember him, and with the support of his former classmates, former colleagues at the Mayors office(where he worked for many years) I have humbly submit the request to have the portion of the park where games were played renamed in his honor to Mayor Brandon Scott. This feature would solidify the memory of an icon that shaped the lives of so many young men in Baltimore City- some of which went on to play in the NFL & collegiate level. It would be the most fitting memorial to forever solidify his legacy.
