NatWest closure campaign fails and ends.
2014-08-20 09:05:20Thanks to everyone for the tremendous turnouts and all of the 1000 signatures against the closure of the only bank in Sonning Common and our South Chilterns area. The petition was presented with good press coverage outside the Bank and everyone had the opportunity to speak with the CEO later, albeit within the confines of the Bank as the CEO wanted no photgraphs!
Everyone came away from the protest with a feeling that NatWest was certainly not a 'caring' Bank and arrogant towards its customer base in persuit of profits regardless. The name 'National Westminster' should be replaced with 'Only Shareholders Westminster' or, as it has been locally, renamed the 'Ostrich Bank'.
The Bank will be closing on August 29th regardless of public opinion and has set a precedent of positive discrimination against the elderly and non-IT capable people and will never be trusted again. Were such positive discrimination be against race, religion or personal orientation it would be illegal and this is being investigated.
Many people directly affected are closing their accounts and many others are doing the same out of solidarity with Sonning Common.
Well tried everybody!

Public Meeting
2014-07-19 06:51:03I public meeting is to be held outside the Sonning Common branch of NatWest on Monday 21st July @ 11.00am. At this meeting the final count of the petition (over 40 pages of signatures) will be delivered personally to the CEO of NatWest who has agreed to be in attendance to receive it. It is hoped as many people as possible will be able to come as the Press will be there too. See you there!

Sonning Common NatWest Closure Petition
2014-06-17 10:41:08THANK YOU to everyone who signed the petition on line. Including all the signatures collected from Sonning Common shops we have a total of 905 people who do not want the Bank to close; not bad for the "only 29 customers use the bank" statement from NatWest!
