Concerned parents
2016-05-26 16:12:32Asalamualaikum
We are humbly presenting this letter on behalf of a community of concerned parents,
guardians or carers of children who are due to attend Olive School at the proposed
site in September 2016.
We regretfully feel that we have no choice but to strongly protest against the new
school timetable that has been set.
The majority of us strongly believe that the timings that have been imposed have not
been consulted, communicated or discussed - post or prior, or even proposedly
approved by the authority of governors , let alone parents - at any time during the
decision making process.
As a feasible solution we have attached an alternative proposal. We are confident this
will provide the school, parents, the environment and ultimately our children a more
flexible and balance to their school day.
We feel this proposal is a fair compromise and can prospectively work both logistically
and practically; whilst working within the local council planning and school education
parameters.
We are confident this proposed solution can help address and satisfy the pressing
issues/concerns raised by the majority of parents who attended the meetings this
week.
Furthermore, to formally ratify our cause - we have collated signatures from parents
taken from an online petition viewing their dissatisfaction and disapproval to the new
timetable proposed by the school.
We are confident, notwithstanding the schools acceptance of its failings, and the
perception of incompetence on how this whole episode has been handled, that the
leadership team will reconsider and take the relevant steps necessary to resolve this
issue as a matter of urgency.
Kind regards
Parents of the Olive School children 'concerned with new school timetable'.

traffic
2016-05-23 11:06:54Please be aware of these points.
Westholme Infants
Open 08:50 and finishes at 15.25
Westholme Juniors on Preston New Rd open at 08:50 and finish at 15:30.
Westholme Secondary on Meins Rd open at 08:45 and finish at 15:45.
Our 15:30 finish time will cause chaos on Preston New Rd and Meins Rd because it clashes with all three of the Westholme schools.
Also, notice how they have staggered their start and finish times for all three schools to be within a few minutes (even though all three of their schools are on different sites) to help parents with the drop-off and pickup.
Our 8am start doesn't clash with Westholme whatsoever. The earliest start time for their school is 0845
So our only traffic-related issue at 8am would be on Meins Rd. But this is not really an issue because our cars would not be trying to come out on to Preston New Rd from Meins Rd which is where the problem for local residents is.
Our cars are turning into Meins Rd then going into the school site and coming back out on to the bus terminus.
In fact our 08:30 start time would clash more with Westholme than if we started at 08:00.
Please don't be afraid to raise these issues.

Please can parents review this proposal and if you can see any advantages in them request it at the meeting.
Proposed School Times for Olive 2016/17
08.00 to 14.30 Monday to Friday (for all children at Olive)
- 6 hours 30 mins per day
Benefits to the School
Increase in school hours from current schedule by 15 mins each day.
The change to an earlier start time would negate the requirement for the school to offer a breakfast
club option as the children would be starting earlier anyway. This would help staffing requirements
as staff wouldn’t be required to start early to support breakfast club needs.
Olive children finishing at 14.30 would not impact other schools in the area as the 30 minute window
with TIGHS is still maintained.
Olive to consider optional after school club from 1430 to 1500 for children with siblings at TIGHS.
This will again reduce traffic flow during pick up times as parents would only be making one journey
to pick up their children.
Benefits to Parents
Parents with siblings in both schools will only be making one trip in the morning to drop off their
children. This will ease pressure on parents having to make 2 trips because of differing start times for
siblings at TIGHS and Olive. This again will positively impact local commuters etc.
Reception kids would also be finishing at same time as other siblings at olive – positively impacting
parent journeys back and forth to the school, local commuters and the environment.
Benefits to Traffic Flow & Environment
TIGHS and Olive siblings start at the same time therefore reduction in traffic flow having a positive
impact on local residents, businesses, morning commuters and nearby schools.
Reduction in Carbon Foot print – helping us contribute towards a greener and cleaner environment.
Less Journeys and traffic flow around the school will help reduce any safety concerns.
